WORSHIP HIM ALONE

"And the angel said, "Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb." And he added, "These are the true words that come from God." Then I fell down at his feet to worship him but he said, "No, don’t worship me. For I am a servant of God just like you and other brothers and sisters who testify of their faith in Jesus. Worship God. For the essence of prophecy is to give a clear witness for Jesus." Revelation 19:9-10

In biblical times, you had two primary schools regarding religious worship. Most civilizations practiced polytheism where one would worship many different gods. In fact, there would seem to be a god for everything. Monotheism on the other hand is the exact opposite. In monotheism, all power and authority is in one single God…a God who has everything under Him.

Today, we live in an America that offers lots of things for people to worship. Money, sex, power, celebrities, etc…all can be worshiped and adored and are by many. The problem is that worshipping any of these worldly "idols" will not get one into heaven for all eternity. Only belief in Jesus Christ, the one and only Savior, can lead to salvation.

This is why the angel tells John not to bow down before him but to worship God alone.

He also makes another important proclamation in the form of another beatitude saying, "Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb." The wedding feast is used to represent the intimate relationship between God and his people. Those who know and trust in Him and Jesus will receive an invitation to the wedding feast. And what a celebration that will be. Yet, there’s even more to celebrate because the party will never stop. Once there, those invitees will dwell with the Lamb in heaven for all eternity.

Question: What do you worship? If it’s anything short of Jesus Christ and His Father, then you are missing the mark and in danger of missing something far worse than your mark…like eternal life. Stay blessed, stay faithful to God and shun the things of the world that would entice you, and stay focused on Jesus, our only hope and salvation.

In Christ,

Mark
