THREE SURE THINGS

"The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. And the LORD God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die." Genesis 2:15-17

As the creation story is told in a new way in Genesis Chapter 2, we see in today’s scripture that God has put the man He created from the dust into the Garden of Eden to work and take care of it. In these two short verses, three important truths about God are revealed.

1. God puts us where He wants us to be. As we read in verse 15, "God took the man (Adam) and put him into the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it." The bottom line here is that God is in control. He makes us, He provides for us, and He puts us where He wants us to be. We only need to discern what His will is for us wherever He puts us and then respond obediently to what He wants us to do.

2. God has a purpose for each of us. God didn’t just put Adam in the garden and allow him to do what he wanted to do. He gave Adam a purpose for being in the garden…"to work it and take care of it."

Question: Have you sought why God has you in the place He has you in? Have you sought His will in your circumstance? Have you asked God to use you in whatever way He seems fit to ensure He is glorified? One thing is certain, God ALWAYS has a purpose for us. We need only ask Him and He will reveal it.

3. God clearly gives us direction as to what He expects. Once God placed Adam in the garden, He gave Him clear instruction: "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die." There’s no gray area here. God tells Adam that he can eat from every other tree in the Garden of Eden EXCEPT for the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. God gave Adam clear guidance. He does the same to you and I. And just as with Adam, God expects us to exercise obedience.

So in sum, know you are where you are at any time because that’s where God wants you to be. Know He has a purpose and plan for you and stands ready to reveal it anytime you ask. And know that God IS providing you with clear guidance. Are you listening for Him and, if so, are you listening to Him?

In Christ,

Mark
