"Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them." Genesis 1:26-27
God had created the creatures of the sea, the birds of the air, the livestock, the wild animals, and all creatures that move along the ground before He got to the task of creating man. From our scripture, we can see that God gave man rule over all other creatures created.
The more significant part of these two verses is how God created man. We read that he created males and females in His own image. As new babies are born everyday, they are scrutinized for likeness to their parents. Does the baby have the father’s or mother’s eyes? How about the hair? Science digs down deep within the body to reveal DNA and how it plays a role in establishing and sometimes explaining who we become. One thing is certain though…there are still plenty of mysteries contained in procreation as God continuously supplies His created earth with inhabitants. Science will never completely understand creation because it is of God and they will never fully be at the same level of wisdom and knowledge as the One who ordains wisdom and knowledge.
But let me get back to the fact that we are created in God’s image. Is that awesome or what? God took Himself and used it as the mold to make us. And despite how our physical qualities might be different…how our personalities might be different…how our attitudes might be different…we all have an innate potential to reflect the very qualities of God Himself…without actually being God, of course.
Question: Do others see God in you? Can they see His qualities expressed in the way you live? If not, maybe you need to turn more to Him and ask Him to send His spirit into your heart, mind and soul. He longs for you to embody all that He is and wants to take you there. Won’t you let Him today?
In Christ,
Mark
