The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, His body, and since we have a great Priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.

Hebrews 10:19-22

This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

Because of Jesus’ redeeming work on Calvary’s cross, the separation between God and man over sin was removed forever. This was symbolized by the temple curtain tearing in two immediately after Jesus had drawn His final breath (Matthew 27:51). In that moment, the Lamb of God had indeed taken away the sin of the world (John 1:29) for anyone who would simply believe in Him as Savior from that point on.

This truth leads us to today’s passage as we move to the tenth chapter of Hebrews and find the writer proclaiming and informing of the intimate access to God the Father created by Christ Jesus, His Son. Look again at these words here:

Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, His body, and since we have a great Priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Vv. 19-22

Having received the living water of Jesus, water that wells up with us and purifies us for eternal life (John 4:13-14), and washed clean of sin by His shed blood, all Christians are able to “enter the Most Holy Place”, a place once reserved for only the High Priest in Old Testament times. They are able to do so “by a new and living way opened” by Christ Jesus Himself, the Head of the church (Ephesians 1:22-23) and “great Priest over the house of God”. And there, in the Most Holy Place, we are able to “draw near to God”, our Maker and Master, and do so with “a sincere heart and the full assurance that faith brings”.

Compare this to the alternative. For all those who reject Jesus will be judged and condemned by God, unable to come to Him and committed to Hell for an eternity of damnation and torment. They will be separated from God forever, never to experience His love and glory. It’s an awful, terrible outcome for anyone but life is about choices. Once can only blame themselves if they pass up everlasting life for unending suffering.

So where are you today? Are you in a place where you know you will draw near to God one day, having accepted His salvation offer through believing in His Son Jesus? Or are you on the wide road to destruction, the road to Hell and perdition?

If you’re not yet saved, I urge you to believe in Jesus this day and know you will one day spend your life in glory with your God and Savior forever. To decide otherwise would be foolish and, in the end, you would get what you deserve, the eternal destiny you willingly chose.

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
