The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and He will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for Him.

Hebrews 9:27-28

This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

When God drew up His plan for salvation, He made sure it was fundamental in nature, easy enough for anyone in the world to understand or share. We find the good news of God’s redeeming and saving work through His Son repeated over and over in the New Testament but the first proclamation came from Jesus Himself as found in the Gospel of John:

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

Short and to the point. Salvation from perishing, granted free from God out of love, simply coming from just believing in Jesus as Savior.

No works required. No to-do list to qualify for saving. Just the need to trust that God would do what He said He would do, bring eternal life to anyone who believes in His Son.

As we pivot to our two verses today, verses that serve to close out the ninth chapter of the letter to the Hebrews, we find yet another concise sharing of the Gospel message. Look again at those words here:

Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and He will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for Him. Hebrews 9:27-28

Here’s we’re reminded of how Jesus, the Lamb of God who came to take away the sins of the world (John 1:29), was “sacrificed once” to cover the sin debt owed by all mankind. Anyone who believes in Him, believes that He died to pay the price for their sins so they might receive God’s forgiveness and pardon, those believers will not perish but gain salvation through Christ at His second coming.

In other words, anyone who believes in Jesus has a sure victory over death and the grave, a sure hope and future that no one can take away.

Friends, today and every day, let us rejoice and be glad in the blessed salvation we have in Jesus, a blessed salvation we get to tell others about through concise Gospel messages. Let our prayer be that all who hear the good news we share will also believe and secure their place in Heaven as well.

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
