The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age and who have fallen away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss, they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting Him to public disgrace.

Hebrews 6:4-6

This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

There are millions of people in the world today who have heard of Jesus, have been around Christian believers empowered by the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the goodness of God’s Word through their life experiences and still chosen to reject Jesus as their Savior. Some are just so in love with the world and its ways which support a life that is self serving and self fulfilling that they will totally reject any notion of leaving it all behind to believe and trust in a Man they have never met and can’t see in the here and now.

Such is the folly found in unbelief, a folly completely sanctioned and marketed by Satan. It could be referred to as the anti-Gospel movement and unfortunately, it has found a multitude of takers. Never underestimate the power of our enemy for even though he will never gain the ultimate victory when Jesus returns, he is still alive and actively working to fill the coffers of Hell so he won’t abide there alone for all eternity.

Now, a word someone might use for this is tragic, that a person would lose their own soul just to gain a dying world as their treasure but for me there’s a better word to use.

Disgrace.

The God who gives every person life willingly decided to make the way so His beloved wouldn’t perish because of their unredeemed sin. And so He decided to offer up His only Son Jesus to die the death we deserved and bring us a salvation we didn’t earn, a saving that was solely born out of grace and mercy and forgiveness alone.

Jesus, conceived by the Holy Spirit, was born and walked the earth for thirty-three years, all the while knowing how it would end. He would be crucified until death, sacrificed while serving as the Lamb of God so to take away the sin of the world, a sin He freely bore on the cross.

God resurrected His Son three days later, defeating death and the grave, so that anyone who would simply believe in His Son could one day do the same.

It was a gift of unmatched magnitude and value put forth by God to each and every person, a guaranteed portion of the very eternal Kingdom yet to come, and yet, millions upon millions upon millions have snubbed their noses at the offer and continued to live on in their sins all the way to Hell.

This choosing of everlasting loss over gain is nothing more than disrespectful and disgraceful toward God and His Son. The writer of Hebrews sums this up when he writes the following:

To their loss, they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting Him to public disgrace.

Can you imagine this?

Every sin committed by someone who has had the chance to repent, choose Jesus, and be saved, crucifies the very “Son of God all over again”, subjecting Him to the cruelty and humiliation of the cross. Once was enough let alone continuing to put Jesus back there over and over and over again.

Did I say it was nothing short of disgraceful?

Despite all the Gospel work being done for the cause of Christ Jesus, the disgusting news is that many are simply too in bed with Satan to wake up and realize what they are giving up. And yet, Christians can’t allow themselves to be discouraged by this truth. We are to continue to try and make disciples, whether the salvation offer is accepted or turned down. While all may not accept, everyone must hear. For although a multitude of people have dishonored and disregarded Jesus in their lives, they won’t escape facing Him face to face one day in judgment when they will fully realize the eternal mistake they made before heading to eternal damnation and torment.

Don’t be counted in that number.

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
