The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a High Priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.

Hebrews 6:19-20

This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like stability. We all have our routines and function best when they aren’t disrupted.

Unfortunately, life has a way of bringing us challenges and difficulties that rock our world and move us off of the sure ground we like to stand on. Sometimes those life storms can threaten to blow us completely off course unless we have a solid anchor to trust in, an anchor that can keep us firm against the winds and rains of our tough circumstances.

Thankfully, all people have access to an anchor that will never be moved, one that always stays firmly set and is perfectly trustworthy. That anchor is the hope God has given us through His Son, Jesus Christ. It’s a hope we see expressed in the closing verses Hebrews, chapter 6:

We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a High Priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek. Vv. 19-20

As we covered in yesterday’s message, all of God’s promises are sure and perfectly trustworthy because He has no dishonesty within Him. Therefore, when the scriptures tell us that whoever believes in His Son Jesus will not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16), all Christians can have complete, unwavering faith that it will happen. The salvation assurance is the “firm and secure” “anchor for (our souls)” for Jesus has entered the Holy of Holies as the divine High Priest and offered Himself up as the final atoning sacrifice ever needed for the pardon and forgiveness of sins. In bearing our transgressions and dying in our place, He has interceded for us in a way no one else could and removed the separation that existed between us and our God, symbolized by the temple curtain tearing in half after Jesus breathed His last (Matthew 27:51).

Brothers and sisters in Christ, no matter what life brings our way in this temporary existence, we’ll always be reminded that we’re anchored solid in hope when we look to the cross and remember the redeeming work Jesus did there to rescue and save us from Hell. Through our Savior, we are guaranteed that the best life we’ve ever lived is ahead after this one ends and until that time, we have Him with us every step of the way to get us there (Matthew 28:20).

Rest easy and keep the faith whatever circumstances you may find yourself in.

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
