The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus Himself as the chief cornerstone. In Him, the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in Him, you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.

Ephesians 2:19-22

This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

What message should we share with a new believer who has accepted Jesus as Savior?

The scriptures give us plenty of options and all are appropriate and should be used. Here are a couple of them:

First, the new Christian needs to know they are now free from the eternal condemnation and damnation of God.

Romans 8, verse 1 assures us that “there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus”.

Second, the new Christian needs to know they have gained a great inheritance just by placing their faith in Jesus as Savior. In fact, they have become a co-heir with Him to the kingdom of God.

Go back to Romans 8 and look at verse 17 which states “Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in His sufferings in order that we may also share in His glory.”

A third thing a new Christian should know is that they have become a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17), new in that they are saved and walking with Jesus on the narrow path of righteousness with a destination of eternal life (Matthew 7:14)

And then there are the final verses of Ephesians, chapter 2, where we find these words for anyone who has decided to believe in Jesus and become a Christian:

Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus Himself as the chief cornerstone. In Him, the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in Him, you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit. Vv. 19-22

One enters a new family when they place their belief in Christ Jesus as Savior, the very family of God. They become members of His household built on the foundation of those He used to communicate with His people with His Son as the cornerstone. Together with other believers, the new Christian becomes a part of the Lord’s holy temple. They are also assisted in their Christian development by the Holy Spirit as they are built into a dwelling where God abides.

What an amazing turn of events for anyone who was dead in their sin but then saved by a simple belief in Jesus as Savior!

This was the message Paul wanted the Ephesian believers to understand and it’s what the scriptures continue to want us to understand today. Every Christ believers is a part of a greater holy dwelling as they enjoy the indwelling of God within.

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
