THE BENEFITS OF OBEDIENT FAITH

Can I pray for you in any way? Send any prayer requests to OurChristianWalk.com.

In Christ, Mark

The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

Surely He will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.

If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. For He will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

Psalm 91:2-13

This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

Where do you place your trust when it comes to taking care of the matters of life?

Maybe the answer is yourself. Many do, you know. They see themselves as being able to handle all of life’s situations. To ask for help or rely on someone else would show weakness and vulnerability. Rather that humbly admit that help is needed, they instead stubbornly put faith in their own abilities, even to their own demise.

Maybe the answer to the question of where you place your trust is someone else, another person in your life who you place your faith in, feeling that there is no matter that you can experience that they can’t get you out of. Maybe you doubt your own capability to deal with life and so you lean hard on someone close to you who you see having what you lack. Often times, you see this happen in marriages when one partner defers to the other. The problem that arises is when something happens to the partner who was relied upon. The surviving partner finds themselves lost and in despair, now having to deal with issues that they always passed on before to their departed provider.

Finally, there is the best option, the option that is out of this world. Literally.

I’m talking about placing your trust in the Lord who has promised that nothing is impossible with Him. He can do all things according to His will and the one who places their hope fully in Him will never be disappointed, only blessed always and forever.

In what ways will the blessings come? Look at these words from the 91st Psalm:

The list of benefits gained from obedient trust in the Lord Most High include:

1. He will save us from harm.

Surely He will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.

The Lord who formed the heaven and the earth has the power to ward off any dangers that might afflict us. When we trust in Him, we gain His covering and protection, finding refuge and shelter under His wings.

2. He will reveal His faithfulness to us.

His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

When we are faithful to the Lord, we receive His faithfulness in return, a faithfulness that guards and protects us.

3. He will allow no harm or disaster to come to you.

If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.

Trusting and relying in the Lord to care for us and deliver us from tribulation when it comes brings His protection and refuge. And with Him defending us, truly no weapon formed against us is going to prosper. God is greater, now and forever.

4. He will defend us with His angels.

For He will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.

Of interest, you’ll recall that Satan twisted these verses toward his purposes in his attempted temptation of Jesus (Matthew 4:5-7) but didn’t prevail because Jesus didn’t need Satan to tell Him how to gain His Father’s help. Jesus knew His Father was always with Him and placed His full trust in Him and His word. He did so to show us how to do it ourselves.

Jesus would eventually be attended to by angels but it was after He had endured Satan’s temptations. Place your obedient trust in the Father just as Jesus did and He will attend to you with His angels just as Jesus was attended to.

5. He will grant us strength that we don’t have on our own to make it through our difficulties.

You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

Would you dare to tread on a lion or cobra on your own? I don’t think so. But when we have the Lord’s strength in us, we can have dominion over all things if He wills it to be so. I find this truth to be an incredible source of hope and encouragement, that the Lord can grant us the power to overcome what would normally appear to be impossible circumstances.

Salvation, faithful sheltering, protection from harm, angel defense, and strength to do all things. We gain all these benefits and more when we place our full and obedient trust in the Lord, the One who can do all things.

My prayer is that you will place your full faith and trust in Him today and forevermore.

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
