The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.
“Who then is like Me? Let him
proclaim it. Let him declare and lay out before Me what has happened since I
established My ancient people, and what is yet to come—yes, let them foretell
what will come.”
Isaiah 44:7
This ends this
reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.
Today, we look at the second of
three devotions surrounding the uniqueness of God for truly we serve a God who
is like no other.
Yesterday we looked at how God has
no equal or rival as His word asserted that He alone was the first and last,
the King and Redeemer of all, and apart from Him there was no other god. And
yet, the people of Israel and all people since have willingly chosen to worship
and adore other things, false gods and idols that seem to blossom and abound in
the world. Consequently, God’s judgment has poured out on His people through
the ages, bringing consequences on those who reject and disrespect Him by worshipping
the things of the world, despite the warnings in His holy word.
You see, ever since God, the chief
Decision Maker and Creator of all things, chose to give man the free will to
make choices in life, man has erred over and over again in sin over choosing
the wrong things, all when the primary choice they are to make is so simple.
God expects us to choose Him and His ways one hundred percent of the time
without fail. But instead, we think we know what is best for us in the present
and the future even when our pasts are paved with the jagged rocks of our poor
decisions.
The truth of the matter is that we
don’t know what is best for us nor does anyone else for that matter. For when
it comes to what is to come in our lives, there is only One who knows and that
is God. There is no other and He tells us as much in our verse from Isaiah 44.
Look again at these words from our Lord Most High:
“Who then is like Me? Let him proclaim it. Let him declare and lay out
before Me what has happened since I established My ancient people, and what is
yet to come—yes, let them foretell what will come.” Isaiah 44:7
We live in a world today where
people spend money to go to psychics and have their futures predicted. Those
who opt for a cheaper alternative may read daily horoscopes in hope of learning
what’s ahead. Still others invest a lot of time sitting down and planning
things out for a year or five years or longer, whether the point of discussion
is business or career or financial planning, all when none of us know whether
we will even live to see tomorrow.
Friends, let’s just face it. None
of us knows what tomorrow holds, no one except God. He’s the only One who can
foretell what’s to come. There is no other.
Indeed, it has been God who has
been in existence before the first person walked on creation and it will be God
who will be there in the end of the heavens and earth as we know them after He
sends His Son Jesus back to judge the world and all the people on it. He has
foretold the future already, at least on that judgment day, and there are going
to be one of two outcomes.
For those who did not place their
hope and trust in Jesus, a lake of all consuming fire awaits as those people
perish along with the heavens, the earth, and Satan who they allowed to lead
them into sin and away from salvation. For those people, it will be the worst
day ever.
But for those who made the choice
to place their faith, hope, and trust in Jesus as Savior, eternal life will
begin on that day as they are taken into the air with Jesus and ushered away to
reside in the new heaven and earth. For them, it will be the best day ever as
they receive their salvation promise in full.
You see, the future is pretty clear
actually because God has made it known already. Accept Jesus as Savior and you
need not worry about what’s to come which sets you free to live in the present
and carry out the will of God through living like His Son Jesus. Refuse to do
so and you have already signed your eternal death certificate.
Which choice will you make?
My advice is to make it easy on
yourself, now and forever. Believe in Jesus, your Savior, who God sent out of
love to offer you eternal life and seal your future once and for all. For there
is no other way to salvation than through the Son who was like no other, a Son sent
from a God unlike any other.
Amen.
In
Christ,
Mark
