The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.
“Yes, and from ancient days I am He.
No one can deliver out of My hand. When I act, who can reverse it?”
Isaiah 43:13
This ends this
reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.
Think about the ways of God for a
moment. Meditate on them long enough and you will find yourself quickly in a
place that is underscored by awe and adoration, a place punctuated by
thanksgiving and even a touch of fear and reverence.
For there is no one like our God
and when He moves, absolutely no one can change His direction or directives. No
one for when God opts to do something, it is irreversible.
This goes for the afflicted person
who God chooses to touch and heal at an appointed time, even when it is against
the odds of those human doctors attending to their patient, doctors who learn
that it is God and God alone who has the last say.
This goes for the person who has
sinned and needs correction and discipline, the person God has chosen to pass
judgment with its associated consequences. Further, it is going to be
associated with this world one day when God chooses to send His Son back in
judgment over all creation and set in motion the destruction of this world as
we know it.
It applies to the person who is
nearing death because it is God’s will for their life to be over. No one here
on earth can reverse His decision.
And it is connected to the person
who has lived their life apart from God but who chooses to accept Jesus as
Savior and reconcile themselves with their Maker and Creator, receiving His
salvation promise and pardon.
In any and all cases, God is in
control and His actions are authoritative and final. They are irreversible.
One solitary verse from Isaiah 43
speaks to this truth. Look at these powerful words again:
“Yes, and from ancient days I am He. No one can deliver out of My hand.
When I act, who can reverse it?” v. 13
Here, the Lord God Almighty is
letting His people know that He is the same God who made all things, the Master
and Maker of everything who possesses so much incredible power that no one can
stop what He sets in motion. No one can deliver someone from His hand when He
chooses to use it for the benefit or punishment of one of His children. No one
can reverse what He begins.
Now, this truth could bring us to a
place of paralyzing fear I guess if we allow it too. But although we are to all
have a healthy reverence and respect for our God, He does not intend for us to
be so frightened that we cannot function and carry out His will and way. No, He
wants us to be aware that His judgment is as real as His salvation and deliverance,
His restoration just as real as His willingness to allow death, His love and
forgiveness and grace is as real as His wrath and penalties levied against us
for our sinfulness.
For as long as we remain in the
Lord’s favor, ever seeking and remaining obedient to His word, will, and way,
then the truth that God is irreversible serves as a comfort and assurance for
us as we remember His many promises and know that He has assured us He is with
us so that no one could stand against us. God does not do an abrupt about face
on anything He has pledged to do. Rather, He always perfectly keeps His word
and does so in unrivaled power and unsurpassed wisdom.
Friends, the good news is that God
is with us and when He is with us, we have nothing to fear in this world. He
promised us that He would never leave us or forsake us, He assured us that He
was our Refuge and Protector, and He proclaimed to us that He is our very
present help in times of trouble. Embrace His promises today and know that no
matter what life might try to bring your way, it’s the ways of the Lord God
Almighty that matter and His ways have been, are, and always will be irreversible.
Amen.
In
Christ,
Mark
