The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Galatians 3:26-29

This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

If you have placed your belief in Jesus as Savior, you only have one true identity that counts and that is being a Christian.

Your job title or placement in the organizational tree doesn’t matter.

Neither does any form of demographic uniqueness, whether talking about race or gender or even political or denominational affiliation. In regard to the latter, your true identity isn’t Lutheran or Presbyterian or Methodist or Baptist. It’s Christian first, and then you just so happen to worship within the denomination you have chosen.

There’s absolutely no need to complicate anything here. Please your faith in Jesus and you are in Him and He in you. In fact, you become a co-heir to the kingdom along with God’s only Son because like Him, you are a child of God and counted among the seed of Abraham.

As we move ever closer to Christmas Day, let us give thanks that God, out of His deep love, sent His one and only Son to save us from our sins, rescuing us from certain damnation and ushering us into a place of pardon and forgiveness, a place where we will defeat death and live in peace and love and joy forever.

This is the message Paul wanted to leave the Galatian Christians with as he closed Chapter 3 of his letter and it’s the same message the Lord wants us to receive today.

Thanks be to God for the gift of Jesus and His word that serves as a constant reminder of how blessed we are as Christ followers.

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
