The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel I preached is not of human origin. I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ.

Galatians 1:11-12

This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

Mankind is responsible for inventing millions of things since the dawn of creation and many innovations have been life altering. If you don’t believe this, then consider the following:

Not having a car to drive and having to either walk, ride a horse, or have a beast of burden pull you in a wheeled carriage from place to place.

Being unable to communicate with anyone distant from you unless you sent them a note by messengers with no guarantee the message would even arrive. There was no telephone let alone cell phone to use.

There was no internet. You had to learn information by reading books if you even had access to them.

Oh yes, and you didn’t have electricity. Your light came naturally from the sun during the day and candles or maybe an oil-fueled lamp after dark. You didn’t have appliances or a television or hot water heater.

I could go on and on but you get the point. Through the years, people have discovered ways to make life better and we sometimes forget how blessed we have been to get to enjoy these discoveries.

Now, these are all physical manufacturings but there have also been man-made manifestos that people hold to as standards.

As a child, I remember learning to stand and recite the Pledge of Allegiance at the beginning of every school day as I learned the importance of appreciating my country and what it stood for. If you didn’t know already, the Pledge was authored by a Baptist minister by the name of Francis Bellamy in 1892.

As I got older, I was educated on the Constitution and how it formed the backbone of our country’s democracy. This very important document was crafted by the Founding Fathers of the United States and signed into force on September 17, 1787.

And before sporting events in the United States and on international stages where our country participates in competitions, the National Anthem is played and sung. It was composed on September 14, 1814 by Francis Scott Key and adopted as our nation’s anthem by an act of Congress in 1931.

Yes, mankind has been responsible for many, many things we know and use on a regular basis but there is definitely one thing that came from no ordinary person and that is the Gospel. It was formulated by God and formally instituted by the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, His Son, the Jesus who issued the Great Commission before He ascended to sit at His Father’s right hand (Matthew 28:18-20).

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

And Jesus called us to take this Gospel message and use it to “make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything (He) commanded”.

This was the holy salvation plan set in motion and solidified by our Lord. No one has the right to alter it and yet in the churches of Galatia, there were false teachers who were pitching a different Gospel message, one that required believers to comply with the Jewish law as well as a qualification for eternal life.

This is the blasphemy that Paul railed against, the blasphemy that concerned him enough that he wrote this letter to the Galatian Christians. He wanted them to know that he had brought them the legitimate good news of everlasting life through belief in Jesus, a good news that was not of human origin but rather given to the Apostle through a revelation of Jesus Himself.

Today, we still carry on the work of Paul, obedient to the command of Jesus to help people come to be His disciples. To that end, we use the true Gospel message, the one given to us through our Father God and His Son Jesus. Like the Apostle, we are responsible to maintain the integrity of the Gospel and speak out when anyone tries to distort it.

For there’s too much at risk when we are trying to help God and Jesus save those who are walking the path to eternal damnation and everlasting death.

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
