The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

Seek the Lord while He may be found; call on Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the Lord, and He will have mercy on them, and to our God, for He will freely pardon.

Isaiah 55:6-7

This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

So many people today are seeking for answers to the questions and truths of life. The problem is that they are so often looking in all the wrong places.

I say this because the only true sense of perfect guidance and direction for anyone in life does not come from ourselves (because we are far from perfect) or someone else (because they are just as imperfect as we are) or anything else this world has to offer (there is nothing perfect in any worldly offerings).

So where can we always find valid, trustworthy counsel and wisdom regarding life?

The answer is found in our passage from Isaiah 55. Look again at these words and let them soak into your heart, mind, and soul:

Seek the Lord while He may be found; call on Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the Lord, and He will have mercy on them, and to our God, for He will freely pardon.  Isaiah 55:6-7

Note here that we are commanded to seek the Lord and the Lord only, to turn toward Him and call on His precious and holy name. For He, the Lord, is the only legitimate provider of advice that we can always rely on and have confidence in.

And yet we don’t do it and in turn, wonder why we are so lost and misguided.

Why do we so stubbornly pass on the almighty Maker and Master of all things, thinking anyone else would have a clue compared to Him?

I have to think the Lord sees us as so foolish at times.

Perhaps the problem comes in our inability or unwillingness to wait on the Lord. We simply want things right away, in accordance with our timeline, our will, and our desires. We expect the Lord to deliver answers to all our questions as soon as we ask them as if we were petitioning some answer ATM that would give us something of value immediately on demand. And when we don’t get what we want, we look elsewhere and maybe never defer to the Lord again as our best, first option.

Friends, God’s word is truth and the words from today’s scriptures do not give us any other choice than to turn to the Lord and seek Him for all our needs in life. Note that these are action steps. We can’t expect the Lord to always come to us as if He should submit to our schedule. Rather, it’s completely the other way around. We are to look to Him, to search Him out, submit to His authority, and ask what we need of Him. Jesus put it this way:

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” Matthew 7:7-8

The Lord expects that we give our full attention to Him for all things, not just when we feel it’s convenient. We’re to forsake our sinful wickedness and unrighteousness, instead willingly and gladly following the One who is the perfect Way and Truth and Life (John 14:6). For the Lord is always there to receive our petitions, to open doors to our understanding and resolution of our issues, and to help us find what we are seeking. We just need to remember that He does this in accordance with His will and way and desire for us, for He and He alone knows what is truly in our best interest, only He and He alone shows us the depth of mercy that leads to pardon from our sins. All we need to do is return is believe and trust in Him without reservation.

Need answers to life’s matters?

Turn to the Lord and seek Him.

It’s as easy as that.

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
