The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.”

Isaiah 55:8-9

This ends today’s reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

I have always been interested in health and fitness. We all should be for it’s been proven time and time again that if we eat healthy, avoid indulging in harmful substances, and exercise regularly, we have a greater chance of living a long life with the maximum opportunity to live and love and learn.

There’s only one problem you find when you begin to think about and explore a healthier lifestyle.

Everyone has an opinion as to the best way to do it.

It’s true, isn’t it?

Take diet for example. How many different options are out there to choose from? Too many to list in this devotion, I’m afraid. The variations are dizzying and each will convince you that there is no better choice than to follow their plan, even touting testimonies from people who have tried it and found successes.

Look at workout routines and you’ll find the same thing, especially when it comes to targeting those areas you hate to look at in the mirror. You know the places I’m talking about. We all seem to have at least one or two.

One regimen will say its way is best. Another will boast the same benefits but possibly criticize a rival plan. Before long, you’re not sure what’s going to work for you and so you flip a coin and pick the one you think sounds more sensible (or maybe easier) than the others.

This is just one of many examples where we find a lot of different ways we could go on a matter with varying opinions available to sway us one way or another. And of course, we tend to rely on our own instincts as well regarding which way we will choose.

But when you look at these scenarios closely, you will find one very important element mission, the very key element to ensuring we are always selecting the right ways and thinking in the right direction.

That element is the Lord.

How many times are we guilty of trying to work out a path to take or attempting to discern what decisions to make either on our own or relying on another person who isn’t any more perfect that we are? We have a real tendency to rely on flawed intellects and intuitions to make some of the most important determinations in life, completely leaving the Lord out of the process and that is a grave error on our parts.

That’s why we need today’s scripture passage from Isaiah 55. For we all need a wake-up call and reminder that there is no other perfect source for the right and righteous ways and thoughts in life than in and through the Lord. Look at His words again here as He speaks truth into our hearts and minds:

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.”  Isaiah 55:8-9

Higher ways and thoughts from One who is higher than anyone in creation, the Maker and Master of all things, the One who reigns in majesty and power over the earth.

Next time you need to make a critical pick from a number of possibilities, eliminate the guesswork and the likelihood you will make the wrong choice. Turn to the Lord and seek His guidance and direction.

He will never lead you wrong. Ever.

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
