The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy
word.
“But as I told you, you
have seen Me and still you do not believe. All those the Father gives Me will
come to Me, and whoever comes to Me I will never drive away.”
John 6:36-37
This ends
today’s reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.
Have you ever yearned for a relationship
where you will be received lovingly by someone who will be consistent in their
caring commitment to you?
I think we all do. Everyone has an innate
desire to feel cherished and cared for, valued with the feeling that they
really count in this world to at least someone.
Given this, what if I were to give you a
guarantee that you could enter into an affiliation with someone who would
accept you as you are and love you unconditionally, without fail, not just for
the now but forever? Wouldn’t you want to connect to that person?
Well, as we see in today in our continued
study of a wonderful passage from the Gospel of John, Chapter 6, Jesus tells us
of a relationship that will endure and last forever. Look again at His words here:
“But as I told you, you have seen Me and still you do not believe. All
those the Father gives Me will come to Me, and whoever comes to Me I will never
drive away.” John 6:36-37
Jesus had just finished telling the Jews
who had followed Him and His disciples to Capernaum that He was the Bread of
Life (John 6:35), the Bread that they had asked Him to always give them (John
6:34). For those who came to Him, receiving Him as the Bread of Life, Jesus
promised they would find themselves in a place where they would never go hungry
or thirsty. They would always be fulfilled.
Note in today’s passage that all those who
would come to Jesus were motivated first by God the Father. He was the One who
sent people to His Son so they could believe in Him and gain the gift of
everlasting life, a life where they would live with both the Father and Son
forever, a life where they would never hunger or thirst for they would be present
with the Bread of Life, the One who brings rivers of living water flowing within
all who place their hope in Him (John 7:38).
Indeed, all those that God brings to Jesus,
all who come and receive Him as their personal Savior will be accepted and
loved in a way that they never dreamed possible. No one who comes to Jesus to
receive Him will ever be driven away. Jesus said so Himself. He longs to be in
a relationship with every child of God forever but sadly, many will reject Him
and, in doing so, lose the opportunity of a lifetime, the opportunity to feel
wanted and loved, cherished and valued, not just in the here and now, but
forever more.
Question: Have you accepted Jesus so He can
in turn accept you?
Amen.
In Christ,
Mark
