The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.
The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.
“What
You said has happened, as You now see. And though the city will be given into
the hands of the Babylonians, You, Sovereign Lord, say to me, ‘Buy the field
with silver and have the transaction witnessed.’”
Jeremiah 32:24b-25
This ends today’s reading
from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.
Today is the final devotion in a nine devotion series on
reasons we should praise God. If you have been following the series, you know
we have been looking at words spoken by God’s prophet, Jeremiah, as captured in
the book of the Bible that bears his name.
In Part 9, we find a fitting culmination to all we have
learned and are reminded of one amazing quality of God that should leave us all
reassured and confident as we live this thing called life in faith. Look again
at the scripture for today:
“What You said has happened, as You now
see. And though the city will be given into the hands of the Babylonians, You,
Sovereign Lord, say to me, ‘Buy the field with silver and have the transaction
witnessed.’” Jeremiah 32:24b-25
God had foretold that judgment was coming on His people in
Judah and Jerusalem as a penalty for their sinful worship of false gods and
idols. He promised them that they would be attacked by the Babylonians, led by
King Nebuchadnezzar, and after their land was completely destroyed and left in
ruins, they would be hauled away into seventy years of captivity. The
forewarning from God was delivered by none other than Jeremiah and as time
progressed, the people of Judah and Jerusalem would learn that God always does
what He says He will do. He never breaks His word and always fulfills His
promises.
So when you are going through difficult times, remember that
the Lord said this:
I will never leave you nor forsake you. Deuteronomy 31:8
I will be your very present help in times of trouble. Psalm
46:1
I am always working things out for the good of those who
love Me. Romans 8:28
You can do all things through My strength. Philippians 4:13
Through Me, all things are possible. Matthew 19:26
He will meet our needs. Philippians 4:19
He will save us through belief in His Son Jesus. John 3:16
Of course, you could go on and on and on while revealing the
promises that God made with His people but the focal point here isn’t on the
statistics regarding God’s promises but rather the perfect way He has carried
them out through the ages.
When God says He will do something or proclaims something
will happen, rest assured it will occur. It was true in the days of Jeremiah
and it remains true now as it will forever. In the end translation, there is no
one else we can perfectly trust like God.
Praise Him for that today and every day He blesses you with.
Amen.
In Christ,
Mark
