The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.
The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.
You
performed signs and wonders in Egypt and have continued them to this day, in
Israel and among all mankind, and have gained the renown that is still Yours.
Jeremiah 32:20
This ends today’s reading
from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.
We’ve reached the halfway point of our nine devotion series
on praising God, drawing from the words of the prophet Jeremiah in Chapter 32
of the Bible book attributed to Him. Thus far, we have heard God’s prophets
share with us the following reasons for raising our praises to the Lord
Almighty:
1. He has displayed His amazing power through creation and
showed us that nothing is beyond the work of His almighty plans.
2. He is a God of love but also a God of judgment who holds
us accountable.
3. He is a great God who has no equal, a God who is our
great Protector and Refuge.
and
4. His purposes are great, His deeds are mighty, everything
and everyone is in His sight, and He will react, respond, and dole out either
favor or penalty as it is merited by our behavior.
That’s a lot already but we’re far from finished. Let’s look
at what Jeremiah shares with us today as he speaks more about God:
You performed signs and wonders in Egypt
and have continued them to this day, in Israel and among all mankind, and have
gained the renown that is still Yours. Jeremiah 32:20
God is a God of miracles, a God who has placed His power on
display over and over and over again. From the very dawn of creation, He has performed
great signs and wonders before His people, signs and wonders that indeed
happened as the Israelites fled their Egyptian captivity under the leadership
of Moses and God divided the sea, but happened many times even before that.
A rainbow was placed in the sky after the great flood in
Noah’s day to remind His people then and now that He would never again send a
natural event that would obliterate mankind from the face of the earth.
When Sodom and Gomorrah openly sinned before God, the skies
rained down burning sulfur, destroying both cities and all those who resided
within them.
After the Israelites escaped Egypt, they found themselves
hungry and thirsty during their exodus to the Promised Land.
How did God address their needs?
In a way that only He could, a way that was completely
wondrous.
For manna and quail fell from the heavens to feed and
nourish the Israelites and water came out of a rock when it was struck by Moses’
staff.
I could go on and on but you get the point. The scriptures
are full of instances where God took the improbable and made it probable. He
made (and still makes) the impossible possible and showed (and continues to
show) His people that there was nothing beyond the work of His hands. It’s at
the core of the renown and fame He garners from all who know Him, renown and
fame that ranges to these present times we live in, renown and fame that will
endure forever.
For the Lord God Almighty is the only One worthy of all our
honor, glory, and praise.
Like Jeremiah, let us all make a concerted, conscientious
effort to give Him just that through our thoughts, testimonies, and prayers.
Amen.
In Christ,
Mark
