The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.
“This is what the Lord says to His
anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I take hold of. I, the Lord, do all these
things.
Isaiah
45:1a, 7b
This ends this
reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.
Today, we
reach the halfway point in this devotional series simply titled, “This Is What
The Lord Says”, and I suppose that we could have no better place to sum up what
He’s told us so far than to look at the scripture passage from Isaiah 45 for
there we see the Lord telling this about Himself:
“I, the
Lord, do all these things.”
What
things was He referring to?
Well, it’s
all the things mentioned prior to this verse in the first seven verses of the
chapter. They include the following:
1. He
subdues nations and removes power from kings.
2. He
opens doors and makes the way.
3. He
goes before people and removes all obstacles that might keep them from
fulfilling His purposes.
4. He
gives hidden treasures and riches stored in secret places.
5. He
chooses people to serve, summoning them to carry out His will and bestows titles
of honor upon them.
6. He
strengthens all His people and is the source of their prosperity. He also
brings judgment on the disobedient.
The
bottom line is that He can do all these things and more because He is the Lord God
Almighty and there is no other like Him. He told us that too. He is unrivaled, unmatched,
and apart from Him, there is no other god. Period.
Friends, this seems so easy, so
fundamental, too straightforward and primary but I will tell you this with absolute
confidence. At the root of most of our stresses, worries, and fears in life is
the truth that we forget or refuse to believe that the Lord is with us, is for
us, and can do all things.
Don’t tell me this doesn’t happen.
It comes in the midst of difficult
circumstances when things don’t seem to resolve themselves with the expediency
that we would like. And so we begin to get concerned and impatient, both of
which are the growing pains of losing faith. Before we know it, we practically
lose our ability to function, unable to get beyond the anxieties and concerns
that dominate our every thought. Worrisome days turn into sleepless nights
which seem to repeat themselves day after day after day, wearing us down and
out.
Have you been there before? Maybe
you are there today.
Friends, the Lord wants is to
listen to Him today as He tells us, “I can do all things. With Me, nothing is
impossible and there is nothing beyond the work of My hands.”
Do you hear Him today? Do you trust
Him today? Will you give up all your burdens to Him in prayer and petition so to
find His peace that transcends understanding (Philippians 4:6-7)?
Rejoice and be glad, for we are not
left to live this life alone and void of help. Not now, not ever.
The Lord is our very present help
in times of trouble (Psalm 46:1) and He can do everything (Matthew 19:26). He’s
certainly worked greater miracles than taking care of what might plague us in
life, that’s for sure so keep faith and trust Him always.
Amen.
In
Christ,
Mark
