A faithful person will be richly
blessed, but one eager to get rich will not go unpunished.

This ends this reading from God's holy word.
Thanks be to God.
WRITER’S
NOTE: After today, I will be on a ship and heading back to the United States.
I will try and post while away as much as possible but if for some reason
connectivity does not allow it, I will be posting daily again once I arrive
home.
“Great is Thy faithfulness,” O God my Father,
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not
As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not
As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.
“Great is Thy
faithfulness!” “Great is Thy faithfulness!“
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided—
“Great is Thy faithfulness,” Lord, unto me!
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided—
“Great is Thy faithfulness,” Lord, unto me!
These words from one of my favorite
classic hymns speak volumes of praise to the Lord who is faithful unto us.
Indeed, we all receive fully a blessed faithfulness through His constant,
persistent compassion, grace, love, and mercies which are new each and every
morning. We live because He first gave us life and the good news is that He,
the Lord, never turns His back on us even when we turn our backs on Him all too
often.
Such is the rich level of the
faithfulness of God, a priceless faithfulness that one cannot possibly attach
value to, a true treasure of heaven freely given to all of creation.
This faithfulness that is so freely
given by God does not come with an expectation of return. For He expects us to
be just as faithful to Him and those He leads us to serve as He is to us. He
wants His desires to be our desires, His ways to be our ways, His will to be
our will. When we extend this level of commitment and faithfulness to Him and
others, then these words of scripture from Proverbs, Chapter 28 will come to
life:
A faithful person will be richly blessed, but one eager to get rich
will not go unpunished. Proverbs 28:20
Want to experience the fullest
riches of the Lord’s blessings? Then remain faithful and obedient to Him.
Choose to chase after the riches of
the world, more eager to experience its offerings than the Lord’s, and you will
find yourself square in the crosshairs of His judgment and as the word of God
assures us, one who is eager for the riches of the world over the treasures of
heaven that the Lord offers will not go unpunished. There is a price to be paid
for unfaithfulness.
That leads to a couple questions:
If the Lord were to grade you on
your faithfulness, what grade would you receive? Would you pass or fail?
The answer to these questions
depends on who you have placed your hope and trust in the most. Make it the
Lord so you will not have to experience His punishment but rather His blessed
faithfulness that brings compassion that doesn’t change or fail and a love that
is as everlasting as the life we find in Him.
Amen.
In
Christ,
Mark
