The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

1 Corinthians 6:11

This ends today’s reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

In yesterday’s message, we looked at the bad news for the world. No one is worthy of a place in Heaven because everyone is a wrongdoer, a sinner who has fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). Verse 9 of this chapter states the truth that no wrongdoer will inherit the kingdom of God, aka Heaven. Being good a majority of the time despite your wrongdoings isn’t enough.

So if a person in the world isn’t going to Heaven, where are they going?

Well, there’s only one other option and that’s Hell. Everyone lives forever so if a person thinks death is just it and their spirit will just die with their body, they are terribly mistaken. Eternal torment and damnation awaits anyone who decided to pass up the offer God made to escape Hell and instead have the assurance of Heaven.

That’s right? God so loved the world and everyone in it that He didn’t wish for anyone to suffer the consequences of His judgment (Hell) and so He provided a way for a person to gain the inheritance of His kingdom (John 3:16).

This is the good news for the world.

How did God do this?

Well, He needed an atonement of epic proportion to offset the sins of all mankind. No mere perfect, unblemished animal, like the Israelites had used for their atoning sacrifices, would do. And so God offered up His one and only Son, Jesus Christ, as the sacrifice and promised to save anyone who believed in Him as their Savior. Those Christ believers, known as Christians, would not perish but gain eternal life (John 3:16). They also would become children of the Lord Most High and co-heirs with Jesus to the kingdom of God (Romans 8:17).

This is the only way to Heaven. The only way to the Father is through the Son (John 14:6).

Hell doesn’t have to be anyone’s final destination. God made sure of it.

This is the good news for the world but it’s only good news if someone has accepted God’s salvation offer and believed in Jesus as Savior.

Have you?

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
