The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in Him will never be put to shame.”

Romans 10:11

This ends today’s reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

Some people are great about making people feel shame. They seem to take delight in kicking a person who may already be down. Others might feel compelled to follow suit and pile onto someone’s humiliation and guilt over something they have done wrong. And in the worse of these kinds of circumstances, a person never feels forgiven but rather perpetually condemned. There is never a feeling of release from their remorse.

With this, have you ever been the victim of shaming?

Or…have you ever been one guilty of shaming another person?

Maybe you have been on one or both sides of this.

Given the magnitude of this problem, it’s not surprising to see the scriptures offer comfort to God’s people on this matter of shaming. Look again at verse 11 of Romans, chapter 10:

As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in Him will never be put to shame.” Romans 10:11

The world would have us believe that there are some who should be shamed while others have nothing to be ashamed of. It encourages society to openly disgrace anyone who does wrong. Judgment is always authorized.

The Lord sees things differently. For in His sight, everyone has done wrong and is shameful before Him. Or as Paul puts it in chapter 3 of this letter:

“…all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” v.23

Now last time I checked, all means all. It means there are no exceptions.

And so, all people are standing guilty before God. No one is worthy of His approval or favor. All stand in shame before their Maker and Master.

Yet, God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16). He showed that He is a God of mercy and grace that is nothing short of amazing. He didn’t wish for anyone to have to feel dishonored before Him and so He made the way for someone to become shame-free. All they need to do is believe in Jesus.

You see, the shed blood of Jesus washes the sinner free from their sin stains. They are cleansed of their guilt and shame as they become justified before God, released from His condemnation. This is why Paul writes this in the first verse of Romans 8:

“…there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

No condemnation from God.

No being subject to God’s wrath.

No more being destined to eternal damnation and torment.

When one believes in Jesus, they are saved and destined for Heaven’s eternal life, shame-free through their Savior.

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
