The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

“How unsearchable His judgments, and His paths beyond tracing out!”

Romans 11:33b

This ends today’s reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

“God works in mysterious ways.”

Maybe you have heard this statement a time or two and that’s because it rings true with so many people as they watch our amazing Lord move in their lives and the lives of those near to them.

The truth of the matter is that God is functioning at a whole other level from His people.

In yesterday’s message, we were reminded of His infinite and perfect wisdom and knowledge, the depths of which are unmeasurable. Given this amazing nature of our Lord, we know where to go for all guidance and direction we need in life. There is no need to lean on our own intellect or that of another because in the Lord, we have all we need and we will always be ensured we are receiving perfect counsel.

Likewise, as we look at the second half of verse 33, we find how the decisions and judgments of the Lord are infinite. None of us possess the mind of God and so none of us will fully comprehend why He does what He does, in the way He does it, in the time that He deems to act. Certainly, He moves in ways that are completely counter and contrary to the world’s ways and therefore defies human reason. No one can truly figure out how God will move in their lives with the exception of salvation and damnation.

Accept and believe in Jesus as Savior and you can be assured that a day will come when your earthly life will end and you will enter into the glory and blessing of eternal life.

Reject Jesus as Savior and you will not be saved. It’s as simple as that. You also won’t simply die and find that as the end. Rather, you are assured of God’s wrath and judgment applied eternally through damnation and torment.

These two ultimate acts of our amazing Lord are set and we have a choice now as to what our final ending will be. In between is a lengthy series of ebbs and flows of life where the Lord works in accordance with His will and way. His plan, the plan He knows He has for us, will be executed to perfection, even when we can’t quite comprehend why things happen the way they do until we are well beyond our circumstances and challenges, able to look back and see God’s hand in things through it all.

Indeed, His ways are often unsearchable and “His paths beyond tracing out” but that doesn’t mean we are left in a state of utter confusion. Rather, these truths about our amazing Lord drive us to develop faith and trust in the God through which all things are possible (Matthew 19:26), the God who is with us and for us (Romans 8:31), the God who yearns for us to prosper and have hope for a future (Jeremiah 29:11). And these assurances allow us to be strong and courageous, not frightened or dismayed, because God is with us wherever we go (Joshua 1:9).

Friends, God is always moving in our lives and even though we might not be able to comprehend the “whys” of His actions, we can always be confident that He has a divine purpose for us and is working that purpose for our good if we just love Him and keep our hope firmly grounded in His care.

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
