The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

“Only if these decrees vanish from My sight,” declares the Lord, “will Israel ever cease being a nation before Me.”

This is what the Lord says: “Only if the heavens above can be measured and the foundations of the earth below be searched out will I reject all the descendants of Israel because of all they have done,” declares the Lord.

Jeremiah 31:36-37

This ends today’s reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

There are nations in our world today who would love to wipe the country of Israel from the face of the world.

Maybe you’ve heard.

In fact, here was one such quote spoken last year from the man considered to be the supreme leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei:

"God willing, there will be no such thing as a Zionist regime in 25 years. Until then, struggling, heroic and jihadi morale will leave no moment of serenity for Zionists."

Interesting words, particularly in the way they were introduced as “God willing”. Perhaps the leader of Iran needs to spend more time considering the words of the Lord, especially as they come from Him in the 31st chapter of Jeremiah:

“Only if these decrees vanish from My sight,” declares the Lord, “will Israel ever cease being a nation before Me.”

This is what the Lord says: “Only if the heavens above can be measured and the foundations of the earth below be searched out will I reject all the descendants of Israel because of all they have done,” declares the Lord.  Jeremiah 31:36-37

Just how likely is there a chance that Israel will cease being a nation?

As likely as any of the following:

1. The sun not shining by day as the Lord designed and appointed it to.

2. The moon and stars not shining by night as the Lord designed and decreed them to.

3. The seas discontinuing to stir up powerful, roaring waves.

If these things stop happening, then the nation of Israel might have something to worry about. Otherwise, the Lord has the nation in His hands just as He has had them from the very beginning. Israel may have only formerly been recognized as a nation from the world’s perspective since 1948 but in the eyes of God, they have been a nation since He formed them, since the time when He proclaimed the Israelites His people and He their God.

Anyone can send threats and make predictions about how long Israel will survive as a nation but their words are just that, words. They are easily spoken but that doesn’t mean they have any substance or truth to them. We see such an example in the statement from the supreme leader of Iran. This will not be the last openly pronounced threat against Israel for as long as there are people who reject God and His word, then there will be people who are misinformed and mistaken as a result.

Friends, we need to all stand with Israel and respect their place in our faith heritage. For God leaves us no doubt He is standing with them and will continue to do so through the ages, certainly beyond the 25 years mentioned by the Iranian leader.

In the end translation today, the Israelites are still God’s people and He is still their God.

Hallelujah to the highest for this good news!

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
