The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.
After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands.
Revelation 7:9
This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.
In the time between the utter chaos set forth in the heavens and the earth after Jesus breaks the sixth of seven seals on the scroll taken from God’s right hand, we saw in yesterday’s message where 144,000 descendants from the tribes of Jacob – 12,000 from each of the twelve tribes – were marked and sealed by the Lord’s protection so to go forth and bring the Gospel to those in the midst of the Great Tribulation. As we look at chapter 7 and verse 9 of the Book of Revelation, we read about the incredible return on investment that this special sealing produced. Look again at those words here:
After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands.
These words shared by John reveal the unbelievable success of the Gospel work of the 144,000 servants of Jesus. For the “great multitude” of saved people, "wearing white robes" and "holding palm branches in their hands", was seen by John, a large number such that “no one could count” it.
Think about that for a moment for this is after the Rapture where Jesus takes away all His disciples, whether dead or alive, to rescue them from the Tribulation. To begin putting the magnitude of that even into perspective, we know that there are approximately two billion Christians alive on earth today, roughly one fourth of the total global population. That’s a lot of people suddenly being taken from the earth at one time and when we add all the dead in Christ, we can see where it’s a monumental event unlike anything the world would have even seen.
And that’s before this immeasurable multitude of saved sinners that John writes about, an immeasurable multitude created by the Gospel mission work of the 144,000 sealed servants.
It’s nothing less than an astonishing display of God’s continuing grace, mercy, forgiveness, and love, that He would still be opening up the door of Heaven to those who had rejected His Son but then had a change of heart and turned to Him for salvation.
As we’re going to see in tomorrow’s message, the Lord’s goodness is not going to go unnoticed or taken for granted for worship is about to happen, a celebration of the saving power of the Lord, and we’ll get to read all about it as John shares what he saw.
Amen.
In Christ,
Mark
