The prudent see
danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.
Proverbs 27:12
This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to
God.
This ministry was started by
a calling of the Lord for me to use the gift of writing along with scriptural
discernment back in 1987. Upon consideration of a ministry name, the Lord led
me to The Christian Walk because every day is a new chance to walk with Him as
we live and love and learn through all the life circumstances He brings us to.
Every day is fresh and new and exciting as He shapes and molds us through His righteousness
to be more and more like Jesus and His holy word is rife with guidance and
direction and, since we are studying the Book of Proverbs, wisdom.
Where would we be without
the ability to walk with the Lord each day?
Perhaps, our proverb today
offers an answer to that question. Look at it again:
The prudent see danger and take refuge, but
the simple keep going and pay the penalty. Proverbs 27:12
One of the big
benefits that wisdom brings is safety and protection. The Lord, our Good
Shepherd, watches over His flock and leads them to safe places, away from
danger. As long as His sheep stay with Him, they are out of harm's way but if
they choose to wander off on their own, then they will end up vulnerable to
attack from any number of bad elements that wish to kill or do harm. Most sheep
are smart enough to stay close to their shepherd. Those who reject His
protection will end up paying the price for it.
The same applies
to us. Solomon provides us important insight as to how to remain safe and sound
in a world wrought with danger and hazards. It begins with prudence.
Prudence is simply another
word for discretion. One who exercises discretion knows the right thing to do
in the circumstances they find themselves in. The discerning person can sense
danger and trouble when it’s near and they run to the place of refuge under the
sheltering wings of the Lord. Through prudence, these people allow the light of
the Lord to illuminate the paths they travel, exposing peril before it has a
chance to befall them.
Conversely, a person who
shuns the Lord’s wisdom is considered simple. They do not have the light of the
Lord shining on the paths they walk and so they travel in the dark, falling
into the sin that lurks there. The end result is that they do not have the
sensibility to avoid transgression and walk right into it, eventually paying
the penalty for their errors in judgment. It sure would have been so much
easier if they had simply allowed the Lord to be their guide and shield.
Question: How are you
walking through life today?
Are you walking with the
Lord, allowing Him to light your path so you can clearly see the way you are
going and ensuring you travel in safety and righteousness?
Or are you walking in the
dark, allowing sin to attack you and lead you into situations where you will
pay the penalty for not holding onto the hand of your Good Shepherd and
straying away?
My prayer is that this
proverb from Solomon will open your eyes to see clearly where you stand in your
Christian walk and bring you back onto the narrow path where Jesus walks, the
narrow path paved with security, discernment, and decency.
Amen.
In Christ,
Mark
