WAITING

Can I pray for you in any way? Send any prayer requests to OurChristianWalk.com.

In Christ, Mark

The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in His word I put my hope.

I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning.

Israel, put your hope in the Lord, for with the Lord is unfailing love and with him is full redemption. He Himself will redeem Israel from all their sins.

Psalm 130:5-8

This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

An old rock and roll song used to proclaim a truth about our human nature.

It said, “The waiting is the hardest part.”

Innately, we’re not a people who like to wait. We trend toward impatience and a desire for instant gratification. We want things and we want them now. There is simply no time to delay or linger.

Maybe you can relate. I know I can.

No, we don’t delight at all when we are caused to wait. We pace and we fidget. We get frustrated and even angry. Sometimes, we just plain give up waiting.

If only we could be like the psalmist as we read the final verses of the 130th Psalm:

I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in His word I put my hope.

I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning.

Israel, put your hope in the Lord for with the Lord is unfailing love and with him is full redemption. He Himself will redeem Israel from all their sins.

You see, we have trouble waiting because we wait with the wrong focus. We wait for worldly things to resolve themselves. We wait for people to come through for us. We wait for life matters to work out and its accompanying pressures to relieve. We wait for traffic to loosen up and free us from its grip. We wait in line so we can pay for a purchase or conduct some sort of business.

Yes, we wait for so many things in life. Maybe we should just be waiting on the Lord.

The psalmist sure did. He didn’t just wait on the Lord a little. No, we read where his whole being waited. There was no part of the psalmist that wasn’t willing to wait on the Lord, the only One who could handle his problems then, and the only One who can handle our problems now.

We should wait because the Lord is always worth waiting on. His word promises us that He never leaves us nor forsakes us, that there is nothing impossible with the Lord, and that He is always working things for our good. Through God’s word, we find reassurance and strength and confidence and hope. He’s not only with us some of the time; He’s with us all of the time.

No one else is like that in our life. No one else is capable of working things out when we are in need. And no one loves us, cares about us, and wants the best for us like the Lord does.

Friends, the Lord has a plan for each of us, a good and perfect plan that He will work out in His perfect timing. Hold onto the hope you have in Him. Seek and embrace His promises found in His holy word. And allow Him to grant you the strength and patience to persevere through difficulty while you wait.

Yes, we have to wait for things in life but if we wait for the Lord as we wait, trust me when I say it will be well worth the wait.

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
