THE BLESSEDNESS OF UNITY

Can I pray for you in any way? Send any prayer requests to OurChristianWalk.com.

The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron’s beard, down on the collar of his robe. It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the Lord bestows His blessing, even life forevermore.Cross references:

Psalm 133

This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

One of my big concerns about the Christian church today is centered on the matter of ecumenicalism. Look within the walls of individual churches and you’ll find that many of them are doing great things in the name of the Lord. This is something they can feel very good about.

But ask yourself this: How much more would a church be able to achieve if it partnered together with other churches in service for the common cause of Christ?

I’m convinced we are missing a great opportunity to reach the world for Jesus in a profound and powerful way because churches either are unwilling or haven’t considered joining forces with other churches around them to advance the Gospel in their communities.

Imagine what a world where this happens would look like. Imagine all the Christian churches in a community coming together and influencing churches in other communities to do likewise. Imagine then that this movement started to impact the cities of the world as in suburb by suburb, churches joined together until the entire city was beaming with the good news of Jesus. Before long, this Jesus movement would blanket an entire nation and then start spreading to other continents one by one until the entire world was infected and affected by the good news of the Gospel.

Think this is impossible? Think again.

For you’ll remember that we serve a God through which all things are possible. Nothing is beyond the work of His hands and this includes guiding the church toward the common cause of Christ where they can serve others in His love and Spirit. What a blessed unity we would have in the Christian church if we all came together!

I believe that this is what God’s word is trying to tell us in the words of the 133rd Psalm. Look again at the word of David:

How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron’s beard, down on the collar of his robe. It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the Lord bestows His blessing, even life forevermore.Cross references:

The scriptures are clear regarding the blessedness of unity. If we weren’t to live together, lock stepped toward the common cause of Jesus, then the Bible wouldn’t make mention of it. And if it’s good and pleasant when God’s people live in unity, then what is it when we don’t? I can’t help but think that we disappoint the Lord vice gratify Him.

How long will we continue to separate ourselves as Christians? How long will we remain unwilling to join hands and draw together as the universal church under the rule and guidance of Jesus?

How long until we fully realize the wonderful blessedness of unity?

I pray it will be sooner rather than later.

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
