SEEKING GOD'S HELP WITH CONFIDENCE

"And we can be confident that He will listen to us whenever we ask Him for anything in line with His will. And if we know He is listening when we make our requests, we can be sure He will give us what we ask for." 1 John 5:14-15

One of the biggest excuses people use for not believing in God is that He never answers my prayers. They assume that God doesn't exist because He doesn't give them everything they ask for. At the heart of this problem is that society doesn't know what to ask for and how to ask properly.

Let's tackle both of these areas and see how our scripture can lead us to understanding.
First, we will look at what we should ask for. If the person asking is doing so from a worldly perspective, then they will be asking for the wrong things and God will not hear them. For the world doesn't distinguish between a want and a need. Everything is a want and the world would tell you that you deserve everything the world can offer. Consequently, God becomes this genie in a magic lamp who should answer every wish of the one asking. Our scripture today shows us it doesn't quite work that way.

What we should ask for. John tells us that before we even ask God for anything, we need to ask Him about what His Will is for us. He knows our needs before we even ask. He also has a distinct plan for every one of this. So instead of deciding for yourself what you need, ask God first and He will tell you what you truly need.

How to properly ask. After we ask for and receive what we need to fulfill God's Will, we then turn to the Father in prayer, asking for what He has told us we need. By asking this way, in accordance with the scriptures, then we can be confident that He will listen and answer our prayers by equipping us with what we need to fulfill His Will.

Question: Have you had a problem receiving what you have asked for in prayer? Have you been asking properly in accordance with His Word? Today is a new day and a chance to change the way you approach the Lord with your needs. He is ready to bless you in accordance with His Will for you. Give it a try.

In Christ,

Mark
