"All praise to Him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by shedding His blood for us. He has made us His kingdom and His priests who serve before God His Father. Give to Him everlasting glory! He rules forever and ever! Revelation 1:5-6
Praise. I don't think there is anyone who doesn't like to receive it. In a world that seems be ever more critical of everything, it's always refreshing when someone compliments you for something you've done. It's just a nice way of saying that you're appreciated.
There is a bit of a danger however when we receive praise for an accomplishment because the selfish part our human nature would have us take credit for what we've done. And in doing this, we can tend to forget that we are nothing and cannot do anything good without the Lord’s help. He is the Author of our successes and deserves all the credit. Our goal in life should be to live in a way that will "give Him everlasting glory" as John exhorts us to do in today’s scripture passage from Revelation.
All praise goes to Jesus as well because of His redemptive work on the cross. Jesus, the perfect, unblemished Lamb of God, "shed his blood for us" so that we might be "freed us from our sins" and have the opportunity to find our way to Heaven at our life’s end. Why did He do it? Because He loved us enough to die for us and save us.
Question: Is there anyone in your life who could die for you and, in doing so, grant you eternal life? The answer, of course, is no one…except Jesus.
Won’t you renew your faith in Him today? Won’t you "give Him the everlasting glory" and "all praise"? For only He is worthy as "He rules forever and ever." Thanks be to God for the indescribable gift of His Only Son.
In Christ,
Mark
