THE MASTER DOORKEEPER

"This is the message from the One who is holy and true. He is the One who has the key of David. He opens doors and no one can shut them; he shuts doors and no one can open them. I know all the things you do and I have opened a door for you that no one can shut. You have little strength yet you obeyed My word and did not deny Me." Revelation 3:7b-8

Inventor Alexander Graham Bell said, "When one door closes, another one opens" and life seems like this, doesn’t it? We move from one door to another and sometimes we feel like we’re in a revolving door, never seeming to move further ahead but rather perpetually stuck in place. Does you life feel like it’s stuck in the revolving door of monotony?

Well, maybe it’s that way because you haven’t gone to the Eternal Doorkeeper, Jesus…the One who is holy and true"…the One who wants to guide you to the ultimate goal…the door that leads to eternal life. On the way to that final door, Jesus explains in our scripture that "He opens doors that no one can shut" and "shuts doors that no one can open." In other words, Jesus is in control…not you or I. Yes, we try our best to control our respective destinies and the direction of our lives but the bottom line is that we can’t open a single door unless Jesus wishes for it to be open first.

So what do we need to do to make sure the doors we want to travel through are open? Well, the church in Philadephia can help answer that question. It’s obvious they had done what they needed to do to gain the Lord’s favor and escape His wrath. Such was the quality of their service as Jesus praised them saying, "I know all the things you do…You have little strength yet you obeyed My word and did not deny Me." Jesus requires us to be obedient and faithful to Him and His word. In return, He will open the ultimate door, the one no one can shut.

Question: Are you trying to open and close your own doors in life? Do you find yourself dissatisfied with the direction your life is taking?

If so, why not turn to the One who is "holy and true". He longs to be your personal Doorkeeper, always guiding you to and through the right doors all the way to your final passage through the door of Heaven and a life eternal with Him and God, His Father. Get out of the revolving door and start moving in the direction the Lord commands. You’ll never go back to your old ways…to the old doors that were only leading you to destruction, not eternal life. The time is now.

In Christ,

Mark
