The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

In the sight of God, who gives life to everything, and of Christ Jesus, who while testifying before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, I charge you to keep this command without spot or blame until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which God will bring about in his own time—God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords.

1 Timothy 6:13-15

This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

Many people in the world today do not know God in their lives. Despite the fact that the Bible has been around for the ages and accessible to a majority of the earth’s population today, the very holy book that God uses to reveal Himself and His salvation plan for all creation remains unknown to many.

So with so many people not knowing who God is and how He applies to the lives they live, this next series of messages are very important for as we continue to study from 1 Timothy, chapter 6, we find the scriptures revealing God’s qualities. Let’s begin by looking at verses 13 through 15:

In the sight of God, who gives life to everything, and of Christ Jesus, who while testifying before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, I charge you to keep this command without spot or blame until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which God will bring about in his own time—God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords.

Rather than fall into the love of money and its associated potential for sin and evil, the Apostle Paul had commanded Timothy, the Ephesian believers, and even us today to pursue life qualities that would be beneficial to us in the sight of the Lord. You may remember that these qualities, covered in yesterday’s message, included righteousness, godliness, love, gentleness, and endurance in faith. All could easily be obtained by modeling the way we live in accordance with the life of Jesus as revealed in the Gospels.

This was what we find the Apostle Paul talking about as he charges Timothy and all those who would read or hear his words “in the sight of God who gives life to everything and of Christ Jesus” to pursue these qualities “without spot or blemish” until the time when Jesus would appear again.

When will that happen? When can we expect Jesus to come back to earth as the scriptures promise?

Paul makes it clear, just as Jesus had before (Matthew 24:36), that only God knew the time when He would send His Son back to judge the world. It would be at His appointed time just as He dictates everything that happens within creation. In other words, God has been, is, and will always be in total control of all things in Heaven and on earth.

This frames the first qualities we learn about God in 1 Timothy 6. For we read where He is “the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings, and Lord of lords”.

In other words, God is unrivaled and unmatched in sovereignty and authority, period.

No nation anywhere is greater than He is.

No ruler of a nation, state, or territory - whether a king, lord, president, prime minister, or whatever esteemed title might be placed upon a supreme leader – is greater than God Himself. Everyone and everything is subordinate to Him.

And yet, so many countries and their leaders in our world today conduct themselves like they are gods unto themselves. They definitely don’t go about their business in a way that seeks God’s counsel, allowing Him to dictate what they do. This is perhaps the biggest problem we exist within, a seemingly total disregard and disrespect for the supremacy and majesty of the God who created the heavens and earth as well as all things within them.

Ultimately, God is going to have His way just as He has throughout history. Just in biblical times alone, we see the rise and fall of mighty empires like the Egyptians, Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians, Greeks, and Romans. All came into great power and all failed to acknowledge God as supreme in authority to them. And so they perished while God remained, esteemed and elevated over all.

Who is God?

He is the blessed and only Ruler over all things, the King over every king and the Lord over every lord. With this, every nation and its people should bow down and worship Him, lavishing all honor, glory, and praise upon Him because only He is worthy of it.

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
