The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

Although I hope to come to you soon, I am writing you these instructions so that, if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.

1 Timothy 3:14-15

This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

How hard is it to find truth in the world today?

If you’re like me, it’s a constant concern and source of frustration.

You know, there used to be a time when you could watch or read the news and trust that it was given to you straight and accurate without any deference to an agenda. I know it’s hard to believe today but that time did exist.

But journalism changed and not for the good. What was a platform primarily used for good became a powerful instrument of deception and misinformation, ever attempting to skew public opinion and belief toward a certain ideology. This wouldn’t necessarily be a danger if there wasn’t a public who refused to think for themselves and instead accept everything they hear as truth without validation.

In the Gospel of John, we read where Satan is the father of lies and he is doing some of his best work these days through our media, whether on television, online, or via social platforms.

Another place where he’s finding success is through politics. Like the news, there used to be a time when we could trust elected officials to serve and represent those who elected them instead of outside special interests but those days are long gone as well. Now, we find those in office catering to anyone who is financially supportive or influential enough to keep them in office. Follow the money in politics and you will see what is gaining the loyalty of our politicians and driving their policies. Don’t believe it’s really about you.

So who can we trust in this current environment? Where can we find bonafide, legitimate truth we can always rely on?

The answer is found in today’s scripture passage as the Apostle Paul is closing out chapter 3 of his first letter to Timothy. Look again at those words here:

Although I hope to come to you soon, I am writing you these instructions so that, if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth. Vv. 14-15

Here’s the word of the Lord makes it crystal clear.

The pillar and foundation of the truth is the church of the living God. Period.

If you’re looking for truth anywhere else, you’re searching in the wrong place and are sure to be misled by Satan who we know “prowls around like a hungry lion looking for someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8).

Why is the church of the living God the source of perfect, unfailing truth?

Because Jesus is its head (Ephesians 5:23, Colossians 1:18) and He is the Way and the Truth and the Life (John 14:6).

If you want truth, you go to the One (Jesus) who is Truth, the perfect sinless Son of the God Most High who holds authority over all things in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18).

So how does this fit into Paul’s call for the Ephesian Christians to “conduct themselves in God’s household”, children and members of His family?

Again, it’s all about Jesus.

As Christians, they were to live like Christ Jesus and with Him at the head of the household, all they needed to do was to follow His lead and their conduct would always be godly, righteous, and pleasing in the sight of God the Father.

The same remains true today for all who have placed their belief and faith in Jesus as Savior. He is and will always be the key to proper conduct and behavior...and He will always be the One who leads us to the truth, no matter what view this world might try to push through the media or politics.

Now and forever, Jesus is the pillar of truth we can always believe and never risk being deceived.

Never stop trusting in Him and you’ll never regret it.

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
