The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.

Colossians 3:16

This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

We have come to life resolution number eight in this series but before we get to it, let’s recap what we have learned on this journey through the third chapter of Colossians to date.

First, we are to set our hearts on things above and put to death our earthly nature. When we do this, we will clothe ourselves with wonderful things from the Holy Spirit, things such as compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, forbearance, and forgiveness. We’re to bind all these wonderful behaviors with love before seeking to bond with others in unity while letting the peace of Christ Jesus rule and reign in our hearts.

And if we do all this, if we fully commit ourselves to the Lord and allow Him to dictate everything in our lives, then we will realize just how good He is to us in every way which should lead us to an attitude of gratitude and persistent thanksgiving.

Today, we add our next resolution which is:

RESOLUTION #8: Let the message of Christ dwell in you.

What is the message of Christ?

Well, the easy answer could be everything that He said. In fact, many of us have Bibles that carefully ensure that everything that Jesus said was printed in red letters. If your Bible isn’t formatted this way, I would encourage you to add a Bible that does because it really lends to us carrying out this particular life resolution, to let the message of Christ dwell within.

Now, the message of Christ could also be viewed as any prophetic words written in the scriptures and this means that His message is found in both the Old and New Testaments. Going back as early as the Book of Genesis, you will find scriptures that serve as Messianic prophecy and they continue through the Psalms and the prophets Isaiah, Daniel, Micah, and Zechariah.

Since the Bible is centered on God’s redeeming work of salvation for His creation through Jesus, His Son, it makes sense that the message of Christ would be central to the scriptures from beginning to end. For without Jesus, there would be no Gospel; without Christ, there would be no Christian.

So what happens when the message of Christ dwells within us?

Well, we’re not to just let it there without doing something with it. After all, wasn’t this one of Jesus’ messages?

“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20

Without doubt, Jesus calls us to share His message with others and in verse 16 of Colossians, chapter 3, we find some guidance as to how we can do that. Look again at these words here:

Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.

Here, we’re commanded to share the message with Christ with others through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit as we sing to our Lord out of the thanksgiving in our hearts for Him. This morning in worship, we did just that around the great sermon from our pastor. We stood as a congregation and we sang out the message of Christ that was dwelling within us. I don’t know about you but there’s just a special, divine power found when a group of people are all lifting their voices in a song of praise and honor to our Lord. Sometimes, it’s through hymns and other times through more contemporary Christian music but the common thread is always giving glory to the only One who is worthy of it.

Every day, I post a Christian Song of the Day, Blessed Words from the Psalms, and Wisdom from the Proverbs, among other Christian material like these messages the Lord provides to me daily through His Spirit. All serve to be obedient to the calling to let the message of Christ dwell within and then to share that message with other.

How will you do your part today and every day that the Lord provides to share the message of Jesus with others?

My prayer is that you will do your part to help others come to know and find their salvation through the Savior Jesus Christ.

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
