The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else.

Galatians 6:4 NLT

This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

Have you ever based your accomplishments against the accomplishments of another?

Maybe we all have been guilty of it.

In families, we find this happen among siblings. If one is successful, the rest seem to gauge their worth off of the bar set by that brother or sister. If the sibling falls short, then they often feel as if they had failed in life, even if they were prosperous in their own right.

Then there is the work place where we can see employees measuring their success against co-workers, especially the top performer. Not reaching the accomplishment standard of that top performer can leave others feeling inadequate and unhappy with their achievements.

Sadly, in these situations, we find people feeling dissatisfied because they don’t feel like they measure up. Thankfully, the word of God has a message of encouragement for them. Look at verse 4 of Galatians 6:

Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else.

Here, the message from our Lord is clear.

Be satisfied, especially in the work you are doing. Pay more attention to what you are doing than others and work to appreciate what you have done. This is what results in one feeling that they have performed good, resulting in a job well done.

Ultimately, ask yourself this as you self assess:

Have I properly glorified and honored God by the work He has given me the opportunity to do?

Friends, this is where the proverbial rubber meets the road for we first need to make sure our Lord is properly lifted up through whatever we are applying our efforts to. If we do that, if we please God with work that’s well done, then we can be satisfied because He is satisfied first.

Thanks be to God for the gift of His Holy Word.

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
