REAPING WHAT YOU SOW

Can I pray for you in any way? Send any prayer requests to OurChristianWalk.com.

In Christ, Mark

The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

Be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds; for riches do not endure forever, and a crown is not secure for all generations. When the hay is removed and new growth appears and the grass from the hills is gathered in, the lambs will provide you with clothing, and the goats with the price of a field. You will have plenty of goats’ milk to feed your family and to nourish your female servants.

Proverbs 27:23-27

This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

Often times, the successes we find in life come via the effort we put into things. What we typically discover is that those who diligently invest their time and energy toward an initiative gain reward from their endeavors. You get out of something what you put in to it. Or as the Bible puts it, you reap what you sow (Galatians 6:7).

This concept is at the heart of today’s excerpt from the Book of Proverbs. Look at the words of Solomon from Chapter 27:

Be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds; for riches do not endure forever, and a crown is not secure for all generations. When the hay is removed and new growth appears and the grass from the hills is gathered in, the lambs will provide you with clothing, and the goats with the price of a field. You will have plenty of goats’ milk to feed your family and to nourish your female servants. Verses 23-27

To know the condition of your flocks, you had to get out and examine them, giving them careful attention. You couldn’t do this if you just lazily sat around at home. In fact, if you didn’t tend to your flock, you might not have a flock left to tend. Conversely, if you take care of your flock, investing the time in their care, then you would reap the dividends of your pro-activeness. The sheep would provide you with wool for clothing. The goats would give you milk to feed and nourish your family and servants.

Indeed, God’s word tells us that there is a payoff when we take action.

Come to think of it, it’s really at the heart of who we are to be as believers and God followers. For when we respond in obedience to His holy word, will, and way, then we will be far from rest. Rather, we will be carrying out the orders and commands of our Lord and Master, willing servants who live to please Him and make disciples of all people who need to know, trust, and believe in Jesus Christ as Savior. We’re to give our all toward the cause of the Lord because He always gives us His all and when we do give our full effort, the results will show a rich harvest from our work tending the fields and caring for the condition of the Lord’s flocks.

That harvest comes in the number of souls saved, the number of people who were once lost but became found, the number of people who will find victory over death, gaining eternal life in its place.

How well are you responding in obedience to the Great Commission that Jesus gave (Matthew 28:18-20)? Are you sowing His gospel seeds to others so Jesus can reap a harvest of new disciples, a multitude of new creations who have left their sinful, wicked past behind to walk the narrow path of righteousness with a Savior who never stops leading and guiding them to be the people He wants them to be. For once you are in the flock of Jesus, the Good Shepherd will never tire in the way He cares for you until that day when you will see Him face to face.

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
