The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.
Do these things, and you will never fall away. Then God will give you a grand entrance into the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
2 Peter 1:10b-11 NLT
This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.
The Lord God Almighty has clearly made known the precious promises He has given all who would have faith and believe in Him, promises He has never broken because it’s impossible for Him to do so. In all things, He has been, is, and will always be the epitome of perfection.
In this first chapter of Second Peter, we have found the exhortation to put into practice the power of spiritual addition, supplementing our faith with important qualities such as moral excellence, knowledge, self control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly/mutual affection, and love. When we do this, laboring for the Lord and growing spiritually mature so that others can see that He has called and elected us to His service, then we will be productive and useful through our increased understanding of our Savior, God’s only Son, Jesus Christ. As we finish this series today, we add to the benefits experienced through the power of spiritual addition. Look at these words from the second half of verse 10 and verse 11:
Do these things, and you will never fall away. Then God will give you a grand entrance into the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. NLT
When we respond to the calling of this passage in obedience, “doing” the “things” we’re called to do, then we will be so in tune with who we are to be in Christ Jesus that we “will never fall away”, allowing sin to be our master. This should be our daily commitment in this worldly life as we move toward the sure hope of salvation God has given us through His Son. For one day, when the Lord deems our time here is done, He will usher every Christian believer into “a grand entrance into the eternal Kingdom” of Jesus, our “Lord and Savior”, the Jesus who pledged to prepare a place for His disciples and then return one day to take them to where He is now (John 14:1-3).
Friends, what an awesome way to end this series, with the reminder of our guaranteed place in Heaven when this life is over. My prayer is that this will be your joy and peace within every single day the Lord blesses you will during this worldly existence until He calls you home.
Amen.
In Christ,
Mark
