The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.
Son though He was, He learned obedience from what He suffered and, once made perfect, He became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey Him and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek.
Hebrews 5:8-10
This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.
Jesus was the all time perfect, appointed High Priest who was rewarded by His Father God with deliverance from life to death because of His humble obedience and submission to the plan for His life, a salvation instituting plan which required bearing all the sins of mankind and dying with them on a cross outside of Jerusalem. After being raised in resurrection power on the third day after His death, Jesus was rewarded with a place of honor at His Father’s right hand where He reigns and rules in authority over all things in Heaven and on earth as the Savior of the world.
This is a summation of what we have learned so far through our study of Hebrews, chapter 5.
As we turn to verses 8 through 10 in this chapter, we should look at two additional passages, one from the Book of Acts and the other from John’s Gospel. First our passage for today:
Son though He was, He learned obedience from what He suffered and, once made perfect, He became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey Him and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek.
Jesus was a Son and God was His Father. The two were one with each other (John 10:30) unlike any father/son combo in history. And yet, we read here where Jesus, in His humanity, “learned obedience from what He suffered”, a trust in His Father God despite the immense scope of the misery and affliction He would shoulder bearing the weight of His Father’s wrath while carrying the transgressions of the world to the cross. All this served as the impetus for God to make His Son perfect so He could become the “source of eternal salvation for all who obey Him”.
And so it is. There is only one way to be salvation and that is to believe in Jesus, the only name by which anyone can be saved. We know so through the words of Peter spoken before a gathering of the rulers, elders, and teachers of the law in Jerusalem which included Annas, the high priest. He told them this:
“Jesus is ‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.’ salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other Name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:11-12
God so loved the world that He gave His only Son so that whoever would believe in Him would not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16). Jesus was and is the:
One perfect sacrifice to atone for the sins of all creation (John 1:29).
One source of our salvation.
and
One and only way to God the Father (John 14:6).
The narrow road to life, the Kingdom of Heaven, and all the glory which can be experienced forever is through Jesus and Him alone.
Have you placed your hope and trust in Him as your Savior today?
Amen.
In Christ,
Mark
