The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.
“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus, the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so He condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”
Romans 8:1-4
This ends today’s reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.
No condemnation.
They have to be two of the most reassuring and comforting words in the scriptures because they relate to God’s grace and mercy in light of all people being sinners who fall short of His glory (Romans 3:23). Paul highlighted this amazing grace and mercy expressed through God’s love when he wrote this in chapter 5 of this letter:
“God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16). Not one person had any chance to avoid His judgment and condemning to hell so God made a way through His Son Jesus who became the atoning sacrifice, the “sin offering”, the Lamb of God sent to take away the sin of the world (John 1:29).
While all mankind were still sinners, Jesus died for them and when any person credits Jesus for providing their salvation, they gain the gift of eternal life and become co-heirs with Jesus in regard to the kingdom of heaven (Romans 8:17). They also gain the gift of the Holy Spirit which set them “free from the law of sin and death”. Indeed, a Christian is to turn from living for the flesh after being saved, instead opting to live “according to the Spirit”.
As Paul wrote to the church in Philippi, he wrote this exhortation:
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” Philippians 4:4
When a Christian realizes all that Jesus has accomplished to bring them salvation and eternal life, it should be easy to rejoice always for there is no condemnation for those who are in and of Him.
Amen.
In Christ,
Mark
