The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.
For as the soil makes the sprout
come up and a garden causes seeds to grow, so the Sovereign Lord will make
righteousness and praise spring up before all nations.
Isaiah 61:11
This ends today’s
reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.
SMH
You may be aware of this
abbreviation or you may not.
Any veteran of social media will
recognize it and know it means simply this:
Shaking my head.
Typically, we use it when we hear
someone say something that is unbelievable or read a story about something
someone has done that is completely ridiculous.
In other words, SMH is triggered by
anything that makes you just want to shake your head.
I think there’s plenty of things
going on in our nation and in our world today that make us just shake our heads
in anger or disbelief or both.
Conflicts over race, immigration, homosexuality,
and flags which have certain symbolic meaning seem to dominate our headlines
alongside brutal terroristic acts of violence and persecution doled out by any
number of threatening organizations bent on manifesting as much evil as
possible in the world.
It’s enough to shake our faith and
hope in humanity and our place in it to the core.
So where can we find some assurance
in the midst of all this? How can we find ourselves in a better place, a place
where instead of shaking our heads, we are lifting our hands in praise and
thanksgiving?
As usual, we go to the blessed,
wonderful word of God and the final verse in Isaiah 61 is just what the Father
has ordered in order to shift our spirits from despair to excited expectation.
Look at these words:
For as the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden causes seeds to
grow, so the Sovereign Lord will make righteousness and praise spring up before
all nations. Isaiah 61:11
In a world where it seems like
there is so much wrong, we need to turn to the One who is perfectly right and
righteous, the Lord God Almighty. Nothing is impossible for Him and as the scriptures
assure us. He will work the soil like the well-skilled divine farmer that He is
and sow seeds of righteousness that will sprout and spring up before all
nations, bringing them all to a spirit of praise.
Note here that the negativity is
gone. No disagreement or strife or discord. Only peace and a people living
right while united in their praise for the Lord.
It’s a beautiful picture and one we
need to be praying for, the day of a much needed springing up initiated by the
Lord who change everything and make all things new.
Amen.
In
Christ,
Mark
