The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

For to us a child is born, to us a Son is given - And he will be called Mighty God.

Isaiah 9:6

This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

The words of one of the greatest modern contemporary Christian anthems sing of the amazing, incredible power of the God we serve:

Our God is an awesome God
He reigns from heaven above
With wisdom, power, and love
Our God is an awesome God

Awesome in power and reigning from heaven above in wisdom and love. It’s a perfect summation of the God we serve, a God who chose to delegate His authority to His Son and our Savior Jesus, the One who He gave unto us to be called Mighty God. The following scriptures attest to this truth:

For to us a child is born, to us a Son is givenand he will be called Mighty God. Isaiah 9:6

Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” Matthew 28:18

God sent His Son Jesus to walk among His people, showing them how to walk in righteousness and free from transgression before offering Himself as a living sacrifice to defeat sin, death, and the grave before being resurrected in power and placed in charge of all creation. The Jesus who came to save us ascended to rule over us as He became our Mighty God, the One who can do all things and the One who grants us the strength to do the same (Philippians 4:13).

How mighty was Jesus?

He gave a brief summation of the strength of His might here, speaking to a group of disciples sent by John:

“He replied to the messengers, “Go back and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, (and) the dead are raised.” Luke 7:22

To think about the amazing power of Jesus, we simply need to ask ourselves the following questions:

Who has ever just spit in the eyes of the blind, touching them and restoring their sight immediately? Mark 8:22-26

Who has ever just spoken words to a lame person to heal them completely and restore their ability to walk? Matthew 9:1-8

Who has ever simply touched a leper and removed the disease from them immediately? Matthew 8:1-3

Who has put their fingers inside the ears of a deaf person and restored their hearing? Mark 7:31-35

And who has commanded someone to come from the grave from death to life and it indeed happened? John 11:38-43

No one person has done all of these things except for Jesus, the One sent unto us as the Mighty God. He is the One who can do all things and there is nothing too impossible for Him and His almighty power. Let us never forget this as we live this thing called life while giving the Savior the fullest measure of our honor, glory, and praise.

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
