The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

For who knows what is good for a person in life, during the few and meaningless days they pass through like a shadow? Who can tell them what will happen under the sun after they are gone?

Ecclesiastes 6:12

This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

Do you know what is best for you in life?

Many people would see this as a dumb question. I mean, duh. Of course, I know what is best for me. Who else would know better?

Now, one could think it a dumb question if I or any other mere human being asked but what if God asked the same question? Would we still see it as dumb?

I would hope not because the Lord does not ask questions that are without value.

With this, look at today’s scripture, the final verse from Ecclesiastes, Chapter 6:

For who knows what is good for a person in life, during the few and meaningless days they pass through like a shadow? Who can tell them what will happen under the sun after they are gone? (v12)

Did you catch the questions?

Who knows what is good for a person in life?

Who can tell them what will happen after they are gone?

Two tangible questions for us from the word of God. Two questions that lead us to ponder, “Who knows?”

Who knows what is good? Who knows what awaits us after our life here on earth is over? Who knows what will happen here on earth when we depart it?

We can ask them all and add them to all the other things we seek to understand but we shouldn’t waste too much time doing so. There’s so much more that the Lord has for us to do.

So what is the answer to our questions? What possible response could satisfy our curiosities fully and quench our wonder?

The answer is simple. God knows.

That’s it and that’s all that matters.

Only God knows what is best for us and the sooner we figure that out and just submit and surrender to His will and way for us, the better.

Only God knows what awaits us after our life on earth is over. He has made the way for us to live with Him forever through His Son Jesus. All we need to do is confess Him as our Lord and Savior before seeking to live as He lived during His life on earth. That is the essence of what it means to be Christian. It’s to be Christ-like and when we achieve that way of living then we will be living self sacrificially and in full submission to the will of God, our heavenly Father.

And only God knows what will happen here on earth after we depart. He always has since He created everything and He always will. Generations may come and go but the Lord God Almighty has reigned and ruled forever. He has been, is, and will always be in control.

So who knows?

God does. He is simply the One who knows ALL things, the One who dictates ALL things, the One who is the Master Orchestrator of ALL things.

There is no questioning this.

May we give Him all our thanksgiving, honor, and glory, now and forever more.

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
