The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that people will fear him.

Ecclesiastes 3:11, 14

This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

Spring is such a beautiful season of the year, a time when things spring to life. The dogwood and crepe myrtle trees in my yard grow leaves and then come into bloom. Plants that have been dormant underground rise through the soil and introduce themselves again in splendor and majestic colors.

It’s too bad they don’t last. For they have a beauty that is within an appointed time and then that beauty gives way to other beauties,

The dogwoods bloom and we get a few weeks to enjoy them before the blooms fall off. After wards, the crepe myrtles take their turn and bloom but again only for a short time and those blooms also depart. Overarching the trees who take their turns blooming, the flowers come out, bringing gorgeousness to our gardens.

When the fall and winter comes, we enter into new seasons of beauty. Tree leaves change from green to brilliant yellow and orange hues, one last curtain call of brilliance before they fall to the ground. Not long after this, snow begins to fall in many places as the temperatures drop, bringing its own magnificence as it covers everything with its pure white flakes.

Then eventually, the temperatures begin to rise again, melting off the snow and ushering in spring once again.

It’s an amazing cycle of God’s amazing creation as season gives way to season, each with their own sense of beauty, each bringing some fashion of change, each always remarkable in their own special way.

So what does this mean to us when we consider life and how we live it?

Let’s look again at God’s word for us today from Solomon in Ecclesiastes, Chapter 3:

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that people will fear him. Ecclesiastes 3:11,14

God makes everything beautiful in its time. This is true whether we’re talking about the seasons and the beauty that each contains. It is true about the lives we live in general for the beautiful things we experience are only but for a season. That is, unless we accept and receive the eternity that God has set in every human heart, the eternity offered through His Son, Jesus Christ, that ensures we will experience the beauty of God forever. We will be able to enjoy an eternal season of glory and splendor and magnificence. None of us can fathom how incredibly awesome that eternal experience is going to be. All we can do, is enjoy the beauty of God’s creation in this season of life as we await with eager anticipation what is ahead.

For through Jesus, we find our way to the Father (John 14:6) and get to experience a beauty beyond comprehension, an enduring beauty that will never end.

Through Jesus, we can rest assured that the best is yet to come.

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
