IN SEARCH OF SOMEONE LOYAL

The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

What a person desires is unfailing love; better to be poor than a liar.
Many claim to have unfailing love, but a faithful person who can find?

Proverbs 19:22, 20:6

This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

What do you value most in another person?

If you ask someone that question, you may get any number of responses but I would bet that a majority of them would center on a person’s faithfulness and trustworthiness.

We like to be connected to people we know we can rely on, don’t we? People we are there for us when the chips are down. People who are not are true to their word. People who don’t associate with us when it’s only convenient for them.

Yes, when we think of those we want to have in our lives, we desire someone who shows an unfailing and uncompromising love and caring for us. The problem comes in finding a person like that.

Am I right?

Solomon in penning these two proverbs shows us the matter is not just a present day problem:

What a person desires is unfailing love; better to be poor than a liar. Proverbs 19:22

Many claim to have unfailing love, but a faithful person who can find? Proverbs 20:6

Perhaps one of the most frustrating parts of life is finding loyal, devoted persons to share life with. In fact, they are so rare it seems today that we find people choosing isolation over socialization.

There is no shortage of people who claim to be steadfast and dependable, there for us whenever we need them but when it comes to putting their money where their mouth is, we often found ourselves let down and disappointed, left alone in the midst of needing someone to support us in time of need.

So what is the answer here? In our search for someone who is loyal, where can we turn to find who we’re looking for?

The only right answer to the question is that we need to ever turn to the only One who never leaves us nor forsakes us, the only One who is perfectly committed and dedicated to us, the only One we can always trust.

We need to turn to the Lord.

The scriptures give us an example in Abram (Abraham before his name change) who was concerned about who would assume his inheritance since he and Sarai were childless:

The Lord took him (Abram) outside and said, “Look at the sky and try to count the stars; you will have as many descendants as that.”
Abram put his trust in the Lord, and because of this the Lord was pleased with him and accepted him.

The Lord made Abram a promise. Abram trusted the Lord, fully believing that His promise would come true. And because of his faithful confidence in the Lord, Abram found himself in the Lord’s favor.

The Holy Scriptures are full of the Lord’s promises to us, promises that reveal His loyalty to take care of His children that He loves so very much. Here are a few examples:

1. The Lord, in passing before Moses while he was on Mount Sinai proclaimed the following:

And He passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin.” Exodus 34:6-7

The Lord truly is abounding in love and faithfulness to His people. No one else rivals Him.

2. Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens, Your faithfulness to the skies. Psalm 36:5

There is no limit to the love and faithfulness the Lord has for us. No boundaries.

3. Who is like You, Lord God Almighty? You, Lord, are mighty, and Your faithfulness surrounds You. Psalm 89:9

Faithfulness is within the essence of the Lord. It’s in His DNA and He alone displays perfect faithfulness to those He loves, a number that includes you and me.

4. Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; love and faithfulness go before You. Psalm 89:14

Wherever the Lord is, so too is love and faithfulness. And since the Lord is everywhere and always in our midst, we are always in the presence of His care and devotion. No one else is with us this way in life. No one.

5. He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. Psalm 91:4

As we face down life’s difficulties and challenges, we are comforted by the word of the Lord which assures us that we are protected by the Lord’s faithfulness that serves to shield and defend us.

Faithfulness and love that abounds, has no boundaries, is ever present, and protects. This is the kind of loyalty we all desire.

Friends, why do we spend so much time seeking someone who will be faithful and loyal to us when we have the perfect manifestation of loyalty and faithfulness already with us in the Lord.

It’s time to stop searching and instead realize how blessed we are to have a Lord who is always with us in good times and in bad, ever working things out for our good in accordance with His perfect will for our lives. Our quest for loyalty begins and ends with Him.

Pass it on. For it is the best counsel any friend can give another.

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
