WHAT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE

Can I pray for you in any way? Send any prayer requests to ourchristianwalk@aol.com

In Christ, Mark

The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

Wisdom is found on the lips of the discerning, but a rod is for the back of one who has no sense.
Cross references:
The lips of the righteous nourish many, but fools die for lack of sense.
Whoever derides their neighbor has no sense, but the one who has understanding holds their tongue.
Folly brings joy to one who has no sense, but whoever has understanding keeps a straight course.

Proverbs 10:13, 10:21, 11:12, 15:21

This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

NOTE: From Proverbs, Chapter 10 through Chapter 22:16, Solomon writes a series of individual proverbs for us to consider. I will try and group similar proverbs in my devotions as I cover what Solomon wrote over these chapters.

Question: Do you have sense or not?

Have you even pondered it?

You should because the Bible definitely speaks about it, particularly in the Book of Proverbs we have been studying from.

Let’s look at what marks someone with sensibility using our proverbs:

1. They exhibit wisdom and discernment in what they say.

Wisdom is found on the lips of the discerning. Proverbs 10:13

2. They use the wisdom and discernment they have to help others.

The lips of the righteous nourish many. Proverbs 10:21

3. They watch what they say, using restraint when necessary.

The one who has understanding holds their tongue. Proverbs 11:12

4. They walk a straight path of righteousness in life.

Whoever has understanding keeps a straight course. Proverbs 15:21

Now, the question is again: Do you have sense?

The answer will only be yes if you consistently and persistently seek the will and way of the Lord in your life, the Lord who will constantly and tirelessly impart divine wisdom on your heart and mind which you will translate into the way you live.

If you’re not living this way, then your life is nonsense, or rather living with no sense. This is what defines who you are without the Lord’s wisdom and its accompanying ability to discern:

1. You are prone to discipline and correction.

A rod is for the back of one who has no sense.

The Lord is not going to give anyone a pass who shuns Him and His offer of righteousness for sinfulness. Instead, He will mete out His judgment and send consequence, a “rod” for the back of one without sense.

2. You are one who chooses to deride others, especially those close to you.

Whoever derides their neighbor has no sense.

A person with the Lord’s wisdom will be an encourager. They will always seek to build someone up. Conversely, one without sense, the one living in sin, will defer to wicked, evil behavior, not hesitating to slander or harm other with the words they say.

3. You rejoice in foolishness.

Folly brings joy to one who has no sense.

Some people just seem to delight in silly, imprudent behavior. It’s the way of life chosen by one without sense, a life of chronic nonsensical behavior. These people are referred to further in the proverbs as fools, those who delight in letting their idiocy and ignorance show. Absurdity is their calling card.

4. You are the one who is on the path of destruction.

Fools die for lack of sense.

If the one who receives and accepts the Lord’s divine wisdom is on the narrow path that leads to life, the fool who chooses to live without sense is one the wide path of destruction which leads to death (Matthew 7:13-14).

Yes, there are two definite courses we can take in life, no more, no less. We either choose to live with sense or we choose to live with no sense.

You know what doesn’t make sense to me?

Why anyone in their right mind would choose to live with no sense at all, why anyone would choose nonsense over righteously-guided discernment and judgment, why anyone would opt for sin over holiness.

My prayer for everyone today is that if they are living in nonsense, they will reverse course and turn to the Lord who will always lead and guide them in the right way, directing their thoughts, words, and actions.

For in the final translation, it’s the only life that truly makes sense.

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
