In Christ, Mark
The scriptures. May God bless the
reading of His holy word.
What the wicked dread will overtake them; what the
righteous desire will be granted.
The desireof the righteous ends only in good, but the hope of the wicked only in wrath.
The wicked desirethe stronghold of evildoers, but the root of the righteous endures.
No harm overtakes
the righteous, but the wicked have their fill of trouble.
Proverbs 10:23, 12:2, 14:17
This ends this
reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.
NOTE: From Proverbs, Chapter 10 through Chapter 22:16,
Solomon writes a series of individual proverbs for us to consider. I will try
and group similar proverbs in my devotions as I cover what Solomon wrote over
these chapters.
NOTE 2: My oldest daughter Stephanie has premiered her own
blog titled, “Live By Philippians 4:13”. Her first post is “Lighting the Way”
and I invite you to check it out and leave her encouragement as she answers the
call of the Lord on her heart and follows in Dad’s footsteps which is
indescribably exciting for me. Here’s the link: http://livebyphillipians413.blogspot.com/
You may have heard the saying, “What goes around, comes
around.”
The idiom simply means this:
What a person does in life will eventually come back
around to impact their lives, either beneficially or to their detriment.
In other words, if a person goes around living in sinful
wickedness, sowing transgression and evil in the way they live, then eventually
the same sinful wickedness will come back on them and impact their lives as
negatively, if not more, than the way they negatively impacted others.
Looking at the following proverbs, we can see God’s word
reinforcing and validating the “what goes around, comes around” as truth, not
myth:
What the wicked
dread will overtake them; what the righteous desire will be granted. Proverbs 10:24
The desire of the righteous ends only in
good, but the hope of the wicked only in wrath. Proverbs 11:23
The wicked desire the stronghold of evildoers,
but the root of the righteous endures. Proverbs 12:12
No harm overtakes the righteous, but the
wicked have their fill of trouble. Proverbs 12:21
The scriptures are clear. No good result comes out of
wickedness. Engage in it and you will get what you deserve such as:
1. A sense of dread.
What the wicked
dread will overtake them.
The hope of the
wicked (ends) only in wrath.
There is a forebodingness when God begins to place His
hand of judgment on someone. The wicked walk the path leading to this and there
will be a point, if not reversed, where their hope of gain from sin will give
way to the reality that they are about to be overcome and overwhelmed by the
Lord’s wrath.
2. Finding yourselves in the company of other wicked, evil
people.
The wicked desire the stronghold of evildoers.
There is no foundation for the wicked to stand on. They
root themselves in the wrong place and with the wrong people. Misery loves
company I guess or maybe rather birds of a feather stick together. Whatever the
case, evil people find themselves amidst those of their kind and often their
judgment comes from this. In other words, they are done in by one of their own.
Talk about “what comes around, goes around!”
The wicked have
their fill of trouble.
God will not allow the wicked to live in comfort. A
trouble-free existence will not be there norm. Instead, the trouble an evil
person presents to those they victimize will come back to them as their payback
for what they have done. The Lord will ensure they receive a taste of their own
medicine, that they truly get what they deserve.
Friends, wicked, evil behavior is not worth what it brings
to the perpetrator. Why people continue to go down that path might be a mystery
but actually it’s pretty crystal clear. For anyone who so chooses to walk
through life minus the Lord will find themselves engaged in sinfulness which
will manifest itself in wicked, evil behavior. It’s as simple as that.
I recommend opting out of sin and instead committing you
to righteousness, a righteousness that the proverbs assure us will bring:
1. The granting of our desires.
The righteous
desire will be granted.
2. Goodness in all we do.
The desire of the righteous ends only in
good.
3. Eternal life through being rooted in Jesus Christ, the
living vine who sustains us now and forever (John 15:1-5).
The root of the
righteous endures.
4. Safety and protection from harm.
No harm overtakes the righteous.
The Lord blesses those who seek after and commit
themselves to His righteousness. He judges those who shun Him for wickedness. His
people will get what they deserve and He is always perfectly just.
Where do you stand today in your relationship with Him?
Amen.
In Christ,
Mark
