WHY TRUST IN GOD?

Can I pray for you in any way? Send any prayer requests to OurChristianWalk.com.

In Christ, Mark

The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

Praise the Lord.

Praise the Lord, my soul.

I will praise the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.

Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save. When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing.

Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord their God. He is the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them — He remains faithful forever. He upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets prisoners free, the Lord gives sight to the blind, the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down, the Lord loves the righteous. The Lord watches
over the foreigner and sustains the fatherless and the widow, but He frustrates the ways of the wicked.

The Lord reigns forever, your God, O Zion, for all generations.

Praise the Lord.

Psalm 146

This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

Times are hard today. There’s no denying that. A lot of people are struggling and things don’t seem like they are going to get better anytime soon. It’s enough to get anyone a little down and maybe even pondering the following question:

“Why trust in God?”

The question is often born from frustration in the midst of life’s difficult circumstances. The Lord often has us waiting until His perfect plan for our lives is revealed and we don’t often handle waiting very well. One of the fruits of the Spirit is patience (Galatians 5:22-23) and we often find that fruit never quiet fully maturing within us. We want things now. We want instant gratification when we desire something and that works counter to the God’s way most of the time.

So why should we trust in God?

Because God’s word tells us to. It’s a simple as that.

Take a look at the 146th Psalm:

The Lord watches over the foreigner and sustains the fatherless and the widow, but He frustrates the ways of the wicked.

The Lord reigns forever, your God, O Zion, for all generations.

Did you see the Lord’s guidance here on trust?

We’re not to place our trust in human beings, It doesn’t matter how mighty or powerful or influential they may be from a worldly perspective. None of them have the power to protect, rescue, and save like the Lord Almighty.

But God didn’t stop here. He didn’t just tell us to not trust in anyone but Him. No, He gave us a whole list of reasons why we should trust in Him. Consider the following:

1. We trust God because He is our help.

God is ever ready to bring His fullest power and might to bear for our good. He watches over us and meets our needs according to His perfect will for our lives.

2, We trust God because He is our hope.

With God, we have all we need because in Him, and in Him alone, we have hope through His only Son Jesus who He willingly offered up as a sin sacrifice to pay the price we should have paid. God did of out of His deep love for us so that we might have a chance to live with Him forever. Those who have placed their faith and trust in Jesus Christ have an eternal hope from God the Father that no one can ever take away.

Do you have that hope today?

3. We trust in God because there is nothing beyond the works of His hands.

All the creation power within God, the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them, is in play when God cares for us. Truly, as Paul wrote to the Romans, if God is for us, who can stand against us? (Romans 8:31) That’s an awesome reassurance for us as we deal with tough circumstances.

4. We trust God because He is faithful, not just today but forever.

No one is as reliable as God in our lives. The saying I have always loves simply says, “God might not always be there when you want Him to be but He is always right on time.” Our God loves us and of always working things out for the good of those who love Him. He is ever faithful to His beloved children and this is something we can always trust in.

5. We trust God because He cares for us in times of trouble.

The psalmist reminds us that God upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry. He lifts up those who are bowed down. He is our help, our hope, our Provider, and our Comforter no matter what we’re going through. No one cares for us like God does and no one has the power to save us except Him.

6. We trust God because He is our Great Physician.

God is the originator of all miracles and as we have covered, nothing is beyond the work of His hands. He made us and so He knows every intricate part of what makes us tick. Who else is more capable of solving our health problems except for God? He can remove blindness, cure disease, heal us from sickness, and mend broken hearts. Yes, we have doctors who provide us care but we only have One true Great Physician we can always trust as His diagnosis and remedy is always perfect. He is our God Almighty.

7. We trust God because we know He aids the disadvantaged.

The psalmist calls out the oppressed, the hungry, the fatherless, the foreigner, and the widows specifically but God cares for all who are at a disadvantage in life. When it seems that no one else might be concerned for us and our life situations,

8. We trust God because we know He loves us.

If we forget any of the other seven reasons we should trust God from this psalm and accompanying devotion, we should never forget this one because it is at the heart of everything about God. God is love and it’s His deep, undying love for us that drives all that He does on our behalf.

We have good news in this. The God of the universe, the God of universal love, the King of kings and Lord of lords who reigns forever, loves us.

I say to this a resounding, “Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!“ The psalmist said the following:

Praise the Lord.

Praise the Lord, my soul.

I will praise the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.

What will you say?

My prayer is that you will join us in proclaiming and shouting praise to God, the byproducts of any life that places its trust fully in God.

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
