WHAT IS THE LORD - PART 3

Can I pray for you in any way? Send any prayer requests to OurChristianWalk.com.

In Christ, Mark

The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

The Lord is righteous in all His ways and faithful in all He does.

The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth. He fulfills the desires of those who fear Him; He hears their cry and saves them.

The Lord watches over all who love Him, but all the wicked He will destroy.

My mouth will speak in praise of the Lord. Let every creature praise His holy name forever and ever.

Psalm 145:17-21

This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

Today is the final devotion of three focused on the Lord’s qualities. We have seen Him as King over all, great, good, compassionate, glorious, and trustworthy. Today, we finish with four more amazing traits that we find in the Lord of lords and King of kings. My prayer is that you are blessed by all that the Lord is and will take the time today and every day to give thanks unto His holy and precious name.

1. The Lord is righteous.

The scriptures proclaim the righteousness of the Lord over and over again. He is perfect in every way and thus all He does is right. He is the only one in our lives like that.

With this, why would we ever consult anyone else about what we should do in life’s circumstances? Why would we seek to model our own lives after anyone else but the Lord Almighty?

One thing is as certain as the fact that the Lord is perfectly righteous. If we choose to place Him first in everything we do in life, then we too can be assured that we share in His righteousness as He will lead and guide us to right living. When we confide in the Lord always, every thought, every word, and every action take on His qualities to include righteousness.

Our Savior Jesus proclaimed in His Sermon on the Mount that those who hunger and thirst for righteousness will be filled (Matthew 5:6). Let us ever be starved for the righteousness we only find in the Lord. Rest assured that He will fill us when we do and never leave us hungry.

2. The Lord is near.

Life can sometimes have a way of isolating us in the midst of difficult circumstances.

Perhaps it’s a relationship problem. Maybe it’s an issue at your job. It could also be a financial predicament that seems to have no solution.

We can all find ourselves in a place where we feel in need of someone to help us find our way, someone who can provide us sound counsel and guidance, someone who is willing to listen to what we’re going through, someone who will hold us, comfort us, and love us.

It’s in these instances the following words from David bring us a sense of assurance and peace:

The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth. He fulfills the desires of those who fear Him; He hears their cry and saves them.

Friends, no one is as near to us as the Lord. No one is always available to hear our calls and cries for assistance and no one is as quick to respond, whether with a spirit of love and comfort or a word of guidance or reassurance.

Respect the Lord and make Him first in your life. Believe and trust in Him fully, placing your full trust and hope in His ability to help you, and He will never let you down.

He is near.

3. The Lord is watching over us.

Life can be inherently dangerous. I think we take this for granted all too much but there aren’t too many days that go by that we aren’t teetering on the edge of disaster.

Just consider getting in your car and driving for example. It is a daily exercise in faith and the more traffic you drive in, the greater the risk you face. Ask yourself, what keeps an approaching car on the other side of that yellow line and out of your path. I think you would agree that in a split second, a car could swerve right into your front end and automatically place you at risk of dying. If you don’t believe that, consider that it happens to people every day.

I don’t know about you but I give thanks to the Lord for every safe passage and every safe deliverance from difficult circumstances. The scriptures tell us that He watches over all who love Him and I am grateful for that. It gives me a great comfort as I go out and face what life might bring me. I need not fear because I know the Lord is with me and keeping me in His care as He does all who devote themselves to Him.

4. The Lord is praiseworthy.

This seems a fitting place to conclude this series of devotions. For after seeing all that the Lord is to us, how can we not come before Him in a spirit of praise and thanksgiving?

No one is more worthy of all our praise than the Lord Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, Creator of us all, and the Provider of every good and perfect thing. He is our Redeemer and Friend, our Savior and our Father.

He is in control, ready to bring His might and power to bear to protect and rescue us. He is all wise and righteous, ready to guide us and sanctify us into His holiness. He loves and cares for us like no other, showing us never ending forgiveness, mercy, and grace. His glory, splendor, and majesty have no equal.

This is our Lord and to Him, and Him alone, we owe our deepest gratitude, appreciation, and affection, now and forever.

Amen.

In Christ,

Mark
