The scriptures. May God bless the reading of His holy word.

God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground." Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food."

And it was so. God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.

And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

Genesis 1:28-31

This ends this reading from God's holy word. Thanks be to God.

It was day 6 of God’s establishing all creation when He made man and woman out of His own image but as we see in today’s passage, He did so much more than just bring them into existence. Our scripture verses reveal the following:

1. He blessed them.

God blessed them.

From the very beginning, we learn that God placed His blessing on males and females and the good news is that He has never stopped blessing His children since then. We need to consider this each day as we awake and draw breath, rejoicing in the reality that the Lord has blessed us with another day of life, proving yet again that His mercies (and blessings) are truly new every morning.

2. He allowed reproduction.

God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground."

After God created man and woman, He commanded them to "be fruitful and increase in number" so that they might "fill the earth". To accomplish this, He designed Adam and Eve in such a way that allowed them to reproduce and bring other males and females into the world to populate it. Thus, conception and the subsequent childbirth came to exist just as it does today as men and women come together to continue being “fruitful” while increasing the earth’s population.

3. He cared for what He created.

Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food."

In this final truth, we see that God didn’t just create male and female and then let them fend for themselves. He knew they would need food for nourishment and survival, and so He gave them "every seed bearing plant on the face of the earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it."

Further, the scriptures tell us that He didn’t just do this for human beings but also for “everything that has the breath of life in it", proving that He (God the Creator) is truly the Great Provider of all created things.

So there you are. Here in Genesis, chapter 1, God makes it clear that He is the Creator, the Blesser, and the Great Provider.

Think about all He has done for you in these areas and I guarantee you will always end up in a place of gratitude and thanksgiving.

In Christ,

Mark
