“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”

Revelation 1:8

In the beginning, God.

These are the first four words in the Bible leading off the first verse in the first chapter of the Book of Genesis and the creation story. Indeed, there we read that before anything else existed, there was God who “created the heavens and the earth”

He is also the One who will be present in the end of the very heavens and earth He made, forming a new Heaven and earth as well as a new city of Jerusalem where He and His Son Jesus will live for all eternity with all those who were saved, those who chose to place their belief in Jesus as Savior. Here’s what that scene looks like at the end of the Book of Revelation, the last book in the Bible.

Then I saw “a new Heaven and a new earth,” for the first Heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of Heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and He will dwell with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then He said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be My children. (21:1-7)

God began creation, making the heavens and the earth, and He was the One who ended it all, hitting the reset button on all He had formed before starting over. He was the Alpha who later became the Omega only to become the Alpha again, this time creating a Kingdom that would have no end.

In between these acts, He was perfectly holy and righteous and just, the ultimate, sovereign Ruler over all created things who was the same Almighty God Most High in the past, the present, and the future.

Friends, this wonderful, powerful God is with and for anyone who would choose to place their belief, faith, and trust in Jesus His Son, the only One who can bring someone to His Father. Today and every day through the lifetime of this Heaven and earth and then in the everlasting, glorious life to come, let us render our fullest measure of praise, reverence, thanksgiving, and honor unto God, our Maker and Master and Redeemer.
